... traffic into Tokyo. The journey which took us 2 hours out ended up taking us 5 hours back. There was a consolation though, as this meant we encountered people coming into the station from Shinjuku bars. ... back here again. On the other side we didn't go up the cable car because I'm not great on heights so after a picnic sitting at the other end of the lake we got the boat back again. However I was really pleased with our decision that we'd seen enough of Tokyo in a single day and we should come out and try and see Mount Fuji. We'd been on a Shinkansen, a local bus for an hour past picturesque scenery and had a boat cruise on a lake and seen Mt Fuji apparently floating above ...

... the room we stopped at a convenience store for a bottle of plum wine to celebrate and at another street vendor for an ice cream cone (we couldn't seem to find any birthday cake but ice cream works just as well in a pinch and the mango sauce had real chunks of mango). The remainder of the evening was spent sitting on the balcony, sipping wine and enjoying the music as it progressed from smooth jazz to a smattering of guitar hero's ...

... find a nice place to eat. We found ourselves a nice fish restaurant. Once we were in we noticed that the entire menu and everything in the restaurant was in Japanese only and nothing in english but the waitress had the translations written down in her notebook so we eventually managed to order. I ordered what i think was a fish-hamburger (well that's how it was translated anyway and we both ordered sake to make the whole experience ...

... actual bullettrains that have been in use on the Shinkansen. It was not only possible to view them from the outside but also enter them and view the inner workings of each train. Pretty awesome if you ask me. :-) There were also several simulators in which you could learn how to ride a bullettrain and i was really anxious to try it. But since there are so many people wanting to try and only a few simulators you have to be lucky that your ticket gets picked out of the raffle ...
