I stayed in a lovely authentic ryokan (first time!) in Ito. This village at the sea, about 120km south of Tokyo, is very lively in summer, yet not very interesting in early spring. I walked a bit around town, grabbed a bite and quickly returned to the ryokan. It has it's ...

... the room we stopped at a convenience store for a bottle of plum wine to celebrate and at another street vendor for an ice cream cone (we couldn't seem to find any birthday cake but ice cream works just as well in a pinch and the mango sauce had real chunks of mango). The remainder of the evening was spent sitting on the balcony, sipping wine and enjoying the music as it progressed from smooth jazz to a smattering of guitar hero's ...

... find a nice place to eat. We found ourselves a nice fish restaurant. Once we were in we noticed that the entire menu and everything in the restaurant was in Japanese only and nothing in english but the waitress had the translations written down in her notebook so we eventually managed to order. I ordered what i think was a fish-hamburger (well that's how it was translated anyway and we both ordered sake to make the whole experience ...
