We thought we were pretty good at catching trains. This morning we managed to catch the wrong one which set us back a couple of hours. Quite a few train changes required in our trip to the Izu peninsula which is (normally) a couple of hours south of Tokyo. We packed up our gear and I'm glad we took the approach of having a base for a week and doing day trips, rather than packing up an switching accommodation every day or two. It took about an hour to pack about a quarter of ...

... rain forest with here and there some rice and wasabi fields. We go over Funabara Pass and after a beautiful, long and winding drive we finally arrive at the Hotel. To get to the hotel you have to drive through a charming and hilly residential area. Like in so many hotels in Japan there is a large gift shop containing lots of ...

About 1.5 hour drive. We stopped at Ebina parking lot for a washroom break. Very fancy washrooms. John had to take photos. Also a very large and interesting food market there that sold all kinds of interesting and beautifully packaged items. - Drove 40 min to downtown Tokyo. Stopped at ...

... This stretches for approximately 10 kilometers, which makes it a short trip for my standards. But the trail itself is really amazing and every few hundred meters I had to stop to take some pictures. You walk along high cliffs and pass an old temple and two suspension bridges. The spectacular geology was formed by lava from the nearby dormant volcano Omuro-yama. I think that this trail is absolutely packed in summer, but now I ...
