    ... to get to La Crosse before nghtfall. That said, did manage to use some of the highways in and around Chicago and was able to get a feel for the area. Beautiful, green, lots of water springs to mind. But it is summer and I believe it gets pretty cold in winter.     ... took us through the heart of America's dairy land. And the license plates don't lie. You can't throw a rock without hitting a dairy cow. Fields of corn and wheat are interrupted regularly by well kept dairies. Milk tankers are a common site on the highways and back roads.
