Pretorián át Fokvárosba

... a negyed órányira lévő kikötőnegyedbe, amit itt V&A Waterfrontnak hívnak, és a londoni Canary Wharf vagy a manhattan-i Pier 11. helyi megfelelője: gyönyörűen kiépített kikötői korzók éttermekkel, bevásárlóközponttal, kiegészítve pá luxusszállodával, mozival, koncertteremmel stb. Épp elvonultak a felhők a nyugovóra készülő nap elől, és hihetetlen színek támadtak a permetező esőben. Még a v ...

Having fun...but not roughing it

... intersected the actual trail which was all nicely maintained and although it was frustrating we can say we made the "hard" trail harder. A little further up we ran into a couple of people and Yvette started freaking out. It turns out she had met the guy (from Vancouver) on a previous trip to Mauii. Crazy coincidence running into him on some mountain in the middle of South Africa but the world can be a small place. They got caught up but we were on a time table so ...

Screwed by Ginja

... just canceled our reservation. She told us to make a reservation for the next weekend, but we insisted that flying the 15 hours back from the states was not our top priority. Feeling a little pity for us, she tried to get us a table upstairs at their other restaurant, but we decided that the menu wasn't as appealing. We finally made a reservation for Monday and got in a cab back to the hotel.

Our cab driver was ...

Admiring my teva tan

... in life...! When he got up, i was amazed at his size. He came up to my waist and he felt larger than life to me. After a drink, he went away and Gaby was on the ground purring away. I was able to pet her as well. her head was much smaller than Ganza's. she too was ready to play and when she looked back at me with an open mouth, i actually jumped back. I was nervous. The guide let her lick him and said that she too was ready to play. That ended my encounter and i was ...

Table Mountain and Townships

... but there truly was evidence of very happy people, taking care of each other, shopping in little makeshift markets, hanging out in Shebeens (pubs) or drinking a nasty smelling homemade beer on the stoep (we declined the offer to partake). We had a great game of pool with some boys who were genuinely friendly. We watched a family BBQing sheeps heads on the side of the road for sale (I kid you not). Apparently they are very tasty (especially the nose, tongue ...

My Future Home

... came to convert her home into a B&B after the fall of apartheid and as a way to bring knowledge and awareness to the townships. She was a kind woman and was dedicated in helping bring positive change to the townships and seemed to be well respected by the locals. A few of the students from the ship actually booked a room there for later that night and continued to talk with her one on one. I decided to step outside and see who or what I could find on my own. I wandered around one ...

International Refugee Day

... messages with charisma and eloquence that motivates people to action. Children of refugees and local school children also spoke, read poems, and sang about their experiences with the violence and xenophobism they have encountered. It was difficult to hear yet heartening to see them so young but aware of the issues and hopeful that things can get better. This all happened only a couple of hours ago so the energy and good ...

Life at the bottom of the earth

Over the past few years, I've been an avid collector of long haul flights, jet lag remedies and passport stamps. Upon recently foregoing another hobby, my full time job, I have been interested to find out how a lack of corporate shackles could aid in my desire to conquer the world one visa at a time. Given access to three weeks of anti academics (something they call "winter break"), I huddled with a small troop of HBS hombres and pondered the perfect ...

... used to live there. It was very hard to hear about all of this because I cant think what it must have been like. One minute you have a house and then the next you are forced out of the area you know and into a very different location. Ursula (our Aviva driver) was telling us all about the houses that were destroyed and it didnt really make sense because all I could see was grass and lots of weeds, but then we went to a museum. This was a ...

SHARK CAGE DIVING

... was only for like a second or two, but dude. I was face to face with a Great White Shark. (And all you people who were worried about me, everything was fine. The shark - who me and my group named Sparky - couldn't have cared less that we were there. And even when it was swimming towards me and touched the cage, it just swam away. I never felt like I was in danger. The people really knew what they were doing.) I know I have said this about like everything in Africa so far, but ...
