... The train left promptly and we quickly got to see our first bit of rural America as we head up parallel to the Hudson river. it was an amazing site to see how quickly it became the countryside outside of New York as we headed into places like Poughkeepsie and (the slightly bigger than expected) Albany. We stopped for an hour for a break in Albany which is something i have never experienced on a train before - stopping at a station and being allowed to wander ...

We both ended up freezing through the rest of the night, especially as the outside temperature dropped, with barely any sleep. We were blessed later in the evening to be taken to a very nice winery/restaurant by Tony and Connie, "Coopershawk"' where we enjoyed our last meal and a great bottle of red together.

... we found a Jimmy Johns sub store, a favourite of Lauren's when she lived in America. We had an early lunch there and continued on towards the lake. By the time we reached the foreshore the wind was howling! It was 2 degrees again and there were small waves on the shore. Nevertheless we set the camera up to take some shots then followed the water to Navy Pier. The pier was a tourist mecca! It was mostly indoors shops and food so we rushed through to ...
