... as a mecca for fiber-based crafts and had to see it for myself. I am now considerably poorer, but very happy. I learned a new knitters acronym yesterday, STABLE (Stash Acquired Beyond Life Expectancy). I haven't quite reached that stage, but WEBS put me a couple of yards closer.

We headed east out of Northampton, passing postcard perfect villages and old mill towns. Ware was the first mill town we hit, and the old industrial buildings along the river ...

Lovely sail in to Newport this am. This is a city I really want to come back to and stay for a few days. So much to see and do! We went for a walk along the famous "Cliff Walk" a public pathway right along the ocean that is open to all and goes right in front of all the famous mansions. We ended our walk with a tour of the Vanderbilt's home, the Breakers. Great audio tour so you could go at your own pace. Reminded me of Downton ...

... built in typical New England style. St Mary's Church is a "brown stone" and is notable as the church where John F Kennedy married Jacqueline Bouvier in 1953. The walk along the coastal path was very pleasant and there were some superb properties along the coast with magnificent views out to sea but unfortunately most where hidden from our view by high fences and privet hedges. One however did afford us a great view and that was "Breakers" built by ...

... the holiday homes of the rich & famous New York families of the time, built between the 1880s and 1920s, and used for only 6-8 weeks a year!
The extravagance of these properties used for such a short period of time was quite breathtaking!
















A stop at The Breakers Mansion was part of our tour, and we had plenty of time to inspect ...
