Im Giant Forest gibt es unzaehlige Riesenbaeume, die wirklich jedes Auto winzig erscheinen lassen. Hier steht auch der groesste Baum der Welt (General Sherman :-)). Er ist zwar nicht der hoechste und auch nicht der breiteste, aber sein Gesamtstammvolumen (1500 m3) ist unuebertroffen.

The weather was absolutely perfect with a high of 50 and lows in the 30s while driving through the desert. ... I planned to zip through North Fresno, taking the advice of the CHP. As I came upon Golden State, I saw 2 of Fresno's finest, standing in a parking lot, just looking around. ... It turned out to be a shorter trip into California than if we had stayed on I-40. The biggest surprise I had while driving along this road came after we crossed over Union Pass. I was shocked to find the roadsides between Union Pass and Laughlin littered with mobile homes. It wasn’t the condition of the mobile homes that surprised me. I just hadn’t realized that so many people made this corner of the desert their home.
