    ... flown, or our typical passive-aggressive/overly polite culture would have led to the couple just leaving very quietly and then badmouthing the entire establishment either online and/or to anyone they talked to. It just seemed like a more genuine interaction to me. These types of interactions happened all around us every day – very open, very vocal, and to me – very genuine interactions.

    ... that would have happened in the good 'ol US of A.
    Big bathrooms. Even the most "luxurious" place we stayed (in Alba) had a relatively small shower. I can't wait to shave my legs in comfort again.
    Free bathrooms. I should have had a line item in the budget for paying for bathrooms in Italy. Some places charged as much as 1.50 Euro just to use the restroom (I'm looking at you, Venice). Alba and the surrounding area was the ONLY area where there was ...

    ... flower covered alleys and lush gardens. And I hope we enjoy the cities, truly enjoy them, instead of checking off boxes of places to go.

    So yes, I'll be using all our apps. But I'll also try to forget about them unless we really need or want them (so we don't get lost and have to walk along a highway in the dark).

    It is a vacation, after all. And, as Bob and I always say to each other, "It's an adventure!"

    ... I was so proud of myself for creating this beautiful, expandable folder with slots for each destination. I printed off train ticket confirmations and hotel addresses and contacts. And then I realized... I really don't need it. And it takes up a TON of space. Instead, I've made all of the documents available offline in Google Drive and I'll access them from my phone.

    There are a few maps that we'll be using - I'll just pack those in my hiking bag ...

    Over the weekend we started the challenging job of packing for our 3 week vacation in multiple climates. Add to that the airline restrictions and it becomes a major puzzle. To play it safe we are taking 3 checked bags. Never done that before. Fortunately the airline allows us each 2 bags so we are good to go.
