... dinner and breakfast then lunch provided.

Scenery on route has been very varied. Many different birds, springbok, baboons and more ostriches than I would have thought possible!

We have passed the most opulent towns with huge houses and in real contrast squatter camps where people live in shacks built from corrugated metal sheeting. On some of the stations children ran to the train to sing and beg for money. Found this an uncomfortable experience.
<br ...

Not exactly extreme sports unlike what was to follow but that is a ...

Plettenberg Bay, Western Cape, South Africa miles1... inside and very spacious. The chalets form a loop around a swimming pool and we discover at least three swimming pools in this complex. All the individual chalet units have bird names attached to them. Ours is the white faced duck. The grounds are immaculate and well manicured, with very colorful flowers and vines framing the doorways of many of the units.

Our group meets together for an al la carte meal at the hotel ...
Knysna, Western Cape, South Africa boydandrose... turned cloudy and rain threatened so we hung out at the backpackers for the afternoon and I updated this blog and Wayne read. The bus collected us at 5pm and we headed to Storms River. Along the way it is obvious not all people live in the rich and fancy housing in the town centres, many shanty towns are dotted just outside the towns along the way. The landscape became more remote and forested and we ...
Knysna, Western Cape, South Africa kasnsqueak... is very happy there, they have plenty of activities and a great play area at the back overlooking the beach and sea.

We set Miss Garmin - GPS - for our destination in Swellendam and headed off for Claremont in Cape Town to collect Jason. The journey to Swellendam is through some beautiful country, first the boring bit along the motorway out towards Somerset West then over the mountains via Sir Lowry's Pass and eventually over the rolling hills of ...
Sedgefield and Cape Town Area, Western Cape, South Africa jillybear... and I could no longer feel my hands. After getting over the mild hypothermia, a day later, the stomach bug set in. Not much fun, but at least I wasn't in a dorm room in a backpackers at the time! Once I recovered I joined a team of staff and 6 underprivileged kids for the second part of their marine week. The children had won a competition to come and stay at Rocky Road for a week and had many activities organised to learn about marine related things. The ...

Knysna, South Africa lauraclark... ahead of time... Which brings us back to our present location, Plettenberg Bay, and the search for an internet. After our random wanderings, we decided yesterday that it would be wise to walk back to the island from the city instead of rehiring Taxi Man. I've since decided that hitch-hiking is safer. After almost being run over by cars driving ON the pedestrian area, guard rails in ditches and splash-happy BMW drivers taking great care to drive straight through ...
