First day of work

... the kids liked seeing us confused). That was a lot of fun too.
I was quiet a lot during the day because I didn't know what to do at all. But I'm really excited to continue working at Manenberg and playing with all the children :)

Sepo picked us up after a couple hours and we made our way back home. Today was such a busy day so I was exhausted. I went to the grocery store to get some food and just relaxed the rest of the night.
What a great first day of work!

... lodges. There were also other travelers around so we were happy to have more company for a change. They too had a family style dinner and you could sing to earn your dinner otherwise you'd have to pay. Paddy pulled out his guitar and sang some of the songs he wrote. Everyone was impressed - so much so he also earned dessert. Dinner was amazing and so nice to be among such friendly people who worked at the hostel and of course other travelers. We hung out by the fire on ...

It's odd that just now, 4 days before this big trip, I am finally getting excited!! Yahoo! Went shopping today and (of course) spent more than I needed to but HEY I'm going to SA! I'm holding my excitement back a little because I know Ry is going to be just SO sad while I'm gone and he'll miss me terribly;) So I received my placement for SHAWCO, the organization we are working with while we are ...

We boarded the coach bound for Cape Town with Vikki feeling like death and arrived in Springbok requiring stodge. Wimpy for breakfast anyone? Had a burger meal each with a bottomless cup of fluorescent Fanta orange, which we drank and refilled so many times that the waitress looked stunned...the resulting sugar rush got us back to the coach a little high.

Oh my, this place is beautiful. Set on the beach with awesome sea views. They sent a shuttle to pick us up from the airport and we were delivered to the door step in no time. My room is the standard room, with partial seaviews and a super comfy bed with feather pillows. The room is spacious and clean and freshly decorated. I have all the facilities I need including Wi fi and cable TV. What more could I want?

I'd been out for dinner with some friends, which turned into a few drinks out on the town. We ended up drinking back at the hotel bar until the early hours with a couple of girls we'd found. Having driven there initially, I was in no state to drive home so I drunkenly "negotiated" a room for the night. A very reasonable £80 had me in a nicely decorated double room. I noticed in the morning that it was a little on the compact side, however it served the purpose. Breakfast was good and included in the price.
