Solo breakfast again and brought a plate up for Jerry. Becoming a bit of a joke now that I am the room service maid!
Didn't do so well at breakfast today despite some serious planning. The lovely looking brown bread I chose and sliced smelt and tasted as though it was made with vinegar. Some sort of sourdough? And then I cut a slice of lovely looking cake filled with pistachios, apricots and apple - turned out to be cake with vegetables and ham in! Bit of a shock, and I might have ...

Breakfast alone today as Jerry not feeling great. I took reading material and had a lovely time tucking into the buffet. No Igor, just a smiley girl who kept refilling my tea and orange juice and said I should take a plate of breakfast up to my husband. Which I did, and it made a modest lunch for two!

Already planning tomorrow morning's assault on breakfast buffet.

Amidst the yoghurt, fruit, smoked salmon etc, I ...

For about 9 for the two of us had a little cruise up and down to the river mouth. In the book it said there are eagles and kingfishers, but we saw 3 tortoises, a lot of swifts, a robin and a crow. Just lucky I guess! Still, it was pretty especially where the river went out to the sea. Definitely ...

... our flipflops and picking up a towel, we headed off to explore the city. We knew that the museums and the big Roman Thermae would be closed, as they are every Monday, so we just headed to the beach, via the old town. The first thing we did was stop at a pizza counter for a late lunch; then we stopped at a supermarket to buy drinks to share and an apple for me. We walked along, admiring the colourful stucco architecture as we went, until ...

    The Stone Forest (Pobiti Kamani)

This morning we went on an excursion to a wonderful set of geological formations about 18km from Varna; Pobiti Kamani, the Stone Forest. My sister Kate visited it a week ago and went into ecstasies about it, so we simply had to go too. It was just as fantastic as I expected!

Despite what its name indicates, Pobiti Kamani is not actually a petrified forest. It consists of groups of light grey, rugged stone ...
