... Use of the hotel card is needed to pass down a private road which snakes down the cliff towards the sea. At the bottom, however, it meets a public road which bears an even more uncanny resemblance to a Norfolk country road than the one on the top of the cliff. After a couple of miles it arrives at a rather run-down old-fashioned camping-cum-beach-chalet area with a stretch of tired looking sand. The inevitable beach cafe is pouring ...

Even though there was terrible flooding in the area just before we arrived (we had to take the long route to the beach - the hardship - as the steps were largely washed away) it was beautifully clean with hardly anything on the horizon to spoil the ...

... settlement with castle and some Roman ruins but it's now mostly a nature reserve. It's probably most famous for the 40 virgins who tied their hair together and threw themselves off the cliffs rather than being ravaged by the invading Ottomans...

We have really enjoyed this bit of Bulgaria. The weather could have been kinder but in the summer this area could be a really nice holiday (if your a golfer!).
