About 4 hours from Montpellier we got off the A8 at St Raphael and took the ocean route from there to Cannes to take in the beautiful Mediterranean scenery. It was lunch time as we drove into Cannes. To Monte Carlo on foot??
... sunglasses. As we crossed into France it was short time before we arrived in Monaco. A missed turn took us on a rather circuitous route (that’s for you Scout!) to our hotel. This whole place reeks of money. I feel like the Beverly Hillbillies without the oil revenue. In any case, the credit card wasn’t declined yet, we will enjoy ourselves while it lasts. Taking a day trip to Nice tomorrow via the train. Should be fun!!

Day 45
... the coach.
We were taken on a very scenic tour with breathtaking views across the bay and the beautiful homes.
The first stop was at the village of Menton.
It is the nearest town to the Italian border
Not far away is Carnoles Palace (today an art museum) built as a summer residence for the Princes of Monaco.
We went for a walk to the markets and enjoyed a coffee in a small restaurant.
We asked for Latte" Now that was a problem ...
A Vertical City
... guard, complete with band, and pondered what on earth Grace Kelly did with her time in this tiny principality except shop for Ferragamo shoes and French watches. It is not an exciting place. The ship is here until 11 pm today so people can go to the casino, which is blac- tie only after dark. Needless to say, that was out for the R-P's.
Still, it was an adventure, and we're being waited on hand and foot. Tomorrow on to La Spezia and some real ...
