Not great
from dugongs2
Cork is not the nicest part of Ireland and this hotel is somewhat tarnished with the same brush. It is an old Victorian on a hill with limited views but nothing of much interest.
Rooms were noisy mainly due to lift shafts and the workings clanking throughout the night.
Breakfast was poor quality with frozen and mass produced products. I think this is a problem as there really is no excuse for not providing a nice fresh locally sourced breakfast with lots of flavour but ours were tasteless.
The walk to the town was about 15 minutes and up the hill on the way back which is steep in parts but a good workout after breakfast.
We had a meal in the bar one night and enjoyed that and found service OK. Nothing special. Not particularly friendly but OK.
Would'nt rush to go back but if it is cheap enough it's OK.
Great view

We stayed here for a weekend 17-19 June 2005. Large spotlessly clean room (and generous bathroom) with balcony overlooking Cork city and excellent breakfast in very pleasant surroundings. We had breakfast in room on first day - not entirely sucessful - but fine in restaurant. Neighbourhood not the best - some way out of town centre but views more than compensate. Recommended.
Clean and friendly with wonderful views

I have just returned from a 3 day break at this hotel, i couldn't fault the cleanliness the room was spotless and the bathroom was immaculate. The only downfall was the food as the menu was sparse and the food not too enjoyable and maybe a bit pricey forwhat you get on your plate. The staff are really friendly and they go out of their way to make your stay an enjoyable one. The hotel is built on a steep hill and to walk down to the centre of cork would take you 10-15 mins, we took a taxi back a few times as the hill can get too much at times. I would stay at this hotel again because its CLEAN and i do believe cleanliness should be top prority to hotelier. All in all a pleasant stay with great views over the city of cork.
A Wonderful Hotel - full of character

Stayed here for one night, found it to be a most wonderful hotel, rooms are really huge and very well finished. Food was average for the price, but by no means bad. 5-10 minutes walk to the city centre, down hill. All in all a very pleasant stay.
View almost makes up for the rest.

If you get a front of house room the view, especially at night, is nothing short of splendid. Staff are pleasantly efficient rather than friendly. Housekeeping standards (paintwork, non-working appliances etc.) poor and restaurant staff will very firmly redirect you if you're incautious enough to sit (in the absence of information) where they don't want you. Beware Ireland's no smoking laws which mean you may smoke ONLY in your room or outside the building. It's a ten minute walk to the riverside / city centre but allow fifteen back as it's a steep climb. Ample parking.
A truly charming hotel

I LOVED this place! It was clean and beautiful. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful too. The unique balconies overlooking the pretty little city of Cork, were the icing on the cake.....I stayed at several hotels on my recent visit to Ireland and this one was definitely my favorite by far.
Good Hotel

good hotel, apparently it used to be a lunatic asylum and has been only recently converted to a hotel and so all the rooms are very big. Also v clean and in a good location. If your a visiting also take in Kinsale about half an hours drive away and well worth the visit.
Our stay in Cork

The Ambassador Hotel was lovely, we were a bit worried after reading another review which stated that it was a 45 min walk into the centre, this is untrue, the hotel is in a brilliant location & it took us 10 mins to walk into the centre. The rooms were lovely, very large, warm & comfortable, we would definitely stay again.
Classy hotel

We stayed here earlier this year (2003) to celebrate an anniversary and had a great time. Rooms are big and very well furnished with own balcony, breakfast was fantastic (delivered to the room!) and the staff were always friendly and helpful. It's a bit far from the city, at least a 45 minute walk, but taxi's are easily available and only cost a few Euro. Since the hotel is set up above the city, its romantic at night to look out over the city to see it lit up. Definitely plan to visit there sometime in the future.
