... and got some fresh hot waffles, shaped like the Cathedral with melted chocolate on, and some delicious Stollen. It was a one hour drive to Vaals / Holland. A cute little town. We had dinner at Mo'ment, an interesting little resturant. Duck was the speciality. Matt had huge ribs and H a vegetarian lasagna. Hotel Kasteel Bloemendal Vaals was where we stayed and it was lovely. 18C restored manor house, and we were in the renovated wing.

We arrived at Dan and Andrea's place yesterday around noon and enjoyed a nice lunch of soup and an Italian pizza at the local (and newly renovated) Italian restaurant a short walk away. Dan and Andrea are both working full time and so we took the afternoon yesterday and this morning to explore around the town. We picked up our VW Golf station wagon this afternoon. A really nice vehicle with full GPS which will come in handy. I have ...

Thee caves were actually quarry caves where the limestone was removed by farmers and used in local buildings and also the Church domes. This tour was also by gas light and our guide left us in the darkness for a few moments just to experience true darkness. Although we only walked for 1 hour in the cave system it's ...

The group was large with a few very well behaved German children, it was a long walk and no complaints from them. The ranger only gave the talks in German but a nice man with reasonable English tried to give us the gist of them once we started walking again. Anyway the forest is beautiful to look at and we got onto some muddy hiking ...

... t seen before. The cafe onsite uses the produce from the gardens in their food. Unfortunately I only found this out after we had currywurst at the reconstructed 1960s pub. Don't think I'll have currywurst again, it's not bad but it wasn't good either. Stables and barnyards had animals. Karen was showing some of the German kids how to feed the horses and cows grass while their parents stood back and watched, obviously not prepared to get their hands dirty and slobbered on as she ...
