In the Morning, I'm Makin' (Belgian) Waffles!

... short amount of time, I know…but it was so good). Luckily, I bought more. Even luckier, I discovered the store that I bought the chocolates from also has a location in Versailles. Actually, that may or may not be a good thing.

My next major trip is going to be a grand tour of central Europe for our fall sketch/travel break. If anyone has recommendations for Berlin, Munich, Salzburg, Vienna, Budapest, or Prague, let me know!

... 2,500 you are saving and indulge in chocolates, beer, and other excellent shopping! However, the excess of diamonds tended to look like fake costume jewelry when displayed with such abundance. I thought they all were fake at first. There were some of the most ugly diamond settings I had ever seen here! All in all, I wandered about 3 days around Antwerp. One day I met another tourist named Jimmie, who was sitting at a park where I plopped down ...

... probably the only time in my life when I'll ever be taller than an elephant, even if it is a fake one. From the station, we walked around the area, noting the many diamond shops everywhere. It was like 47th street in Flemish. Neither of us being in the market for any diamonds, we moved on. The road leading from the station to the centre of town is definitely the most generically commercial of anywhere I've been so far in Belgium; with all ...

B+, like my blood type.

I'm feeling quite a bit less homesick now that we've chatted with some Canadians and an Aussie on the train for a while. I've been vainly staring out the window praying to see the communal gardens that remind me of Luke. There was hope for a while but all the scenery seems to have changed. Apparently we're almost back to Bruxelles-Midi. Ooh! A woman in front of me, obviously British ...

... water to show just how bad it was. He pointed out further towards the middle where the water went from blue to a very very very dark black. This is informed was where an undertow was occurring due to the strong winds and waves coming from the main body of water and getting sucked in and trapped in the canal. He then looked at me and said, "I don't know if row in this weather in Canada, but if you feel comfortable handling it in a SINGLE, then we can try ...

Quick stop for beer and chocolate

We had to kill a day somewhere and we read Belgium has the best beer and chocolate, so why not go there we thought. We rolled into town and it was straight to business and try as many beers as we could. I think we got through about 10 different types and i am yet to find one that i didn't like, but a lot of them are about 9% so there fairly strong. They also had some quality food here and compared to ...

When in Belgium, Eat a Waffle

... flags on the sleeves because I was freezing in Munich; I wore it in Italy and they loved it; I didn't get the same reception in Holland...some leftover WWII hostility? - Perhaps the one topic Ray and I discussed most while in Amsterdam was the purchase of an old Russian submarine parked next to our hostel. Evidently, some American owns it, and wants to sell it for 200,000 Euro, so about $250K U.S. We've been working on some business ...

B-day trips to Belgium

... from the distance, the castle had been under restoration for a few years and was actually in real good condition. The castle was built in periods of the 11th-century, 12th-century, and 14th-century (see Pics 3-13). Although it was still drizzling, visiting the castle was fun and gave us a chance to see La Roche from another vantage point. Following the castle, we walked along the main street of town (see Pic 14) to the Battle of the Bulge museum (EUR 11 total). We were the ...

Christmas Trip 2003 - Day 1

... the city, then finding our hotel (www.travel.it/roma/hotelcortina). After checking in and catching our breaths, we were quite hungry. It was almost 11pm and we were worried that all restaurants were closed. We asked our hotel concierge for a restaurant recommendation, which he happily provided. Apparently, restaurants stay open very late in Rome (normal dinner hours for Italians start at 9pm!). We had dinner at a restaurant ...
