... cheap, and we figured we could always come back the next day for more. Whilst walking back to our hotel, we saw many homeless on the walkway crossing the highway, as well as in the streets. On the walkway we saw a generator going, and a guy getting a tattoo done. We don’t know how safe or hygienic this was, but Rob had already made his mind up that he wasn’t going to get a tattoo done there.

... I also wanted to go to the airport because I figured there would be a lot of Indonesian people waiting at the gate for the flight home, and I frankly wanted to sit and listen to them speak. Unfortunately, there were only a few and all the seats around them in the waiting area were full as the flight itself was full. I hung around the airport and did a bit of people watching.

We had lunch at the Cafe Batavia on the opposite side of the square. This was upstairs in another colonial building and had great atmosphere. Hundreds of framed photographs of famous people and posters adorned the walls and the toilet was dimly lit with '50s style fittings and more photos. The fish and chips were good too.
Our last stop for the day was back in the centre at the National Monument. This is called Merdakar or Freedom and celebrates ...

Our condotel is pretty nice, small but with an AC unit in every room so we are nice and comfortable. If this is what it's like in our apartment, then I think we're set. We won't be leaving for Bandung until probably the end of this week, probably Saturday, and until then we've got a lot of training to get through.

... of life. People take things slowly. Even the elevators are slow. As my lil’ J-did told me once, I am a city-walker and I am going to stand-out like a freakish manic here if I keep up my pace. So, slow it down. While it’s humid as anything, I am lost, can’t speak the language, can’t establish whether people are being kind or being honest or telling me yes or no, and can’t find any coat hangers.
