Bangkok take 5

*** I have added some more photos to the Sept 19th entry and also some Vietnam ones from Oct 8th onwards*** Saturday 1st November... Have just come back to earth with a bump. Spent the last few days at the Amari Watergate Hotel in Bangkok, courtesy of British Airways, with my friend Sally and her parents, as her dad is a captain for BA and was on a Bangkok to Sydney flight. While Don flew to and back from Sydney, us girls stayed in Bangkok to shop! I probably didn't need to do any more shoppi...

Suki's makes it to Bangkok

Day 120 Wed 8th March 2006 Suki's makes it to Bangkok!!! After getting in at 7am this morning, we were up again at midday because we had to take the hire car back. Everything was fine with the car and we made our way over to Fortune Mall. I didn't realise the place was so big! We had a look around and I got a Multimedia Card reader so I could get everyone's pictures onto my Powerbook. We came back to Madras around 2pm, Linda went off to the airport to receive Scott (ex-boyfriend), Derek and I...

A night out with Suki and the crew!

Day 121 Thurs 9th March 2006 A night out with Suki and the crew! Oh what a night! This has got to be one of the best nights out so far... The day started off around midday, after last nights it was a miracle we got up at that time. We made Chip Butties (English thing!) for lunch, and they were very tasty too! A little taste of back home is always a good way to start the day. In the afternoon Derek and I went to Khao San road to book bus tickets for Phuket, ready for the arrival of Derek's bro...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Amari Watergate-Deluxe Rooms Bangkok

For Pratunam lover

from pimilan
It's a good choice for bargain shopping and it's the best hotel in this aera.

Large lobby, for take the elevator you need your keyroom. The room are large but the quality of the wood are not exeptionally. The bathroom is nice with separate bath and shower. The best thing is the pool, even it have a little "cool" wind like every pool in Bangkok that stay on high floor but it added a really large garden on the terrace. Good quality in the bakery shop.

No problem with the service. I come with my minibus and i stopped it the large parking. The best Amari Hotel in Bangkok.

Tired hotel

from fran15111
We have just returned from staying at The Amari Watergate Hotel and found the hotel to be very tired and needing renovating.Fabulous lobby and nice throughout the hotel but the rooms are outdated and very tired. The other problem was the location,on a very busy corner you literally put your life at risk trying to cross the street to or from the hotel every time you leave or come back.Bad location and dated rooms !

Best Hotel in Bangkok - AMARI WATERGATE

from VALENTYNE
This hotel is the ultimate. Walk down the driveway and to the left you have the markets on the footpath. Walk to the left and you walk straight into the maze of markets. Buffet breakfast is the best, rooms exceptional. Don't forget to go to weekend market. A real experience. Also an unknown - is Disneyworld, fantastic day out. HAVE STAYED AT THIS HOTEL 5 TIMES AND WILL KEEP GOING BACK. PRIME LOCATION AND BEST HOTEL.

Love the Amari!

from carls888
We love the Amari Watergate. have stayed in many other hotels in BGK but have been disappointed every time. I would stay no where else. Beautiful lobby, great food (not traditional thai though), a wonderful bakery. It's just a great place to come home to and escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Yet close enough to the action to feel safe when walking to a market or the shops. Cannot reccommend this hotel highly enough! Stay there, it's great and well priced compared to some other 5 star hotels.

Great views, great staff especially in housekeeping

from traintravelLondon
I stayed in this hotel in early and mid Deecember 2004. I found is clean, welcoming and the views from the window were great.

After leaving the hotel, I realised I had left a piece of jewelry of great sentimental value in the safe. I faxed from Myanmar, and was reassured it had been kept for me, which indeed it was.

Big surprise

from Lemniot
My son's favourite ever hotel and favourite ever hotel breakfast! And he has a wide experience of both.

Our family were not expecting much, when we were advised by Trailfinders that this was the best value hotel in Bangkok. It was part of a chain and looked a boring high rise from the brochures. Also it was on the edge of things rather than in the centre. How wrong could we be. The situation is perfect. Close enough to everything it forced you to get out and walk a little - no great strain!

The lobby of this hotel is very attractive and luxuriously laid out and the rooms are all spacious, clean and well apppointed with good views over this exciting city. The service is second to none and all the restaurants offer excellent value though perhaps are a little too westernised for my liking. The breakfast room and breakfast is truly an experience to remember with a fabulous selection of ever flowing food. Spoils ones appetite for the rest of the day, if you are not very controlled.

Biggest highlight for us was the lovely little bakery and cafe in the front of the foyer where you could look down on the lively activity below and indulge in wonderful pastries and cakes. All at very low cost.

I would not be put off by the outside of the building. Inside it offers everything you might ask for in a hotel that is much much better then its star rating indicates. For instance we visited the Sheraton on a couple of occasions and were always really pleased to get back to the Amari Watergate. Home.

Great Hotel!

from jen_dew
Amari Watergate has great service and very nice facilities! The room was very spacious, as was the bathroom (separate tub and shower)! The food was also good. Convenient location! Highly recommend!

Beautiful Hotel, Loved the Amari

from CC11
What an amazing hotel, on the evening we arrived, Bangkok was crazy and it was like a Paradise to walk into the Amari Watergate, the staff was fantastic, the food excellent and the pool and spa area was spectacular.... we had only one night and would have stayed a week... hightly recommend it for a stopover or a holiday....

A pleasant surprise in Bangkok

from JKWD
We stayed at this hotel simply because of the recommendation from my travel agent. I did not know much about this hotel chain and I wrongly doubted its quality.

My view changed once we stepped in the hotel and found ourselves in the fantastic reception area.

The hotel is excellent in both its facilities and services. The room is spacious and the bath rooms has separate bath, shower and toilet areas.

The restaurants are superb. We tried the Thai and the Italian restaurants. The Thai food is excellent and the Italian food is even better. What is more, the price for the food is very reasonable.

The only drawback is that it is a bit far from the sky train station. But one needs to go no further for shopping because of its proximity to WorldTrade Centre and Big C supermarket. Given its central location in the city, it is also easy and cheap to take a taxi to almost everywhere.

It was really a pleasant surprise to find such lovely hotel in Bangkok.

Fantastic!! You must stay here!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at the Amari for three nights at the beginning of september 04 with my boyfriend (well he was my boyfriend when we arrived but my fiance when we left!). I can honestly say that the hotel was fabulous! The reception was breathtaking and in the evening two beautiful Thai ladies came to the lobby to play on harps. It was magical. Excellent service from all the staff - everyone was really helpful. I would also recommend a massage on the 8th floor-it lasted for an hour and cost next to nothing compared to UK prices-a wonderful experience in itself!.

I wouldn't only recommend that you visit this hotel if you stay in Bangkok - i would insist!!

I would suggest that you book a front facing room. We pulled the couch up to the window when we got in after a meal and watched Bangkok by night from our room, it was lovely.

Hope you enjoy it!
