Travel Blogs from Pattaya
The sun is out and the humidity starts to rise – it is only 7 a.m. I have already showered but from the short walk to the bus, I am drenched. Between driving to the airport to fly out to Bangkok and then taking a bus to Pattaya, I use those travel times as an opportune time to get some rest.
We finally arrive in Pattaya. As we pull …
Claire arrived in Bangkok today, I flew here last night and was so excited that when my alarm went off, I even did a little jig!! I left the hotel via the airport shuttle at 3pm, grabbed a trolley and a starbs and waited by the arrivals gate...and waited...and waited!! The flight was about 15 minutes late landing, taxied for …
Pattaya is a maze of dichotomies. The smells are a mix of street fried delicacies and doggy poo. At least I hope that was doggy poo. The beach is filled with the casual rich and the incredibly poor. The heart breaks at the elitism of the ridiculously wealthy and the depravity of the human condition.
My initial exposure to the city was an …
This was my quick trip to Thailand to work out whether or not it was suitable to relocate our family for a year for my husband's work. It's funny, it is not a place that was ever that high on my list of places to travel, let alone to live for a year with children. Ever since my first job after university I worked to travel and I have seen some …
... own spurts of being hung over throughout the day. We had a delicious salad and some left over spaghetti for lunch. Relaxed some more. And then Annie brought us over some home-made curry and fresh shrimp for dinner. Once again, delicious! We were all very grateful for the awesome home cooked meal, not to mention we were all lazy and hung over still. After Annie left we all cuddled up on the couch with popcorn for a movie. I passed out at 8PM, ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Amari Orchid Pattaya
Because I was aware of previous construction during previous visits to the Amari Orchid Resort in April and July of 2006, I booked a superior room at a great rate expecting to hear some construction noise but was pleasantly surprised to hear no noise.
We stayed at the Amari and enjoyed the service and mainly the large pool. I've read the other review about the noise of construction from 2006 and it is actually still going on. There is a new building still in process facing the pool but it's just about completed. There's plenty of chairs for tanning and a large open area around the pool. Don't expect a big room for the US118+ a night because they are extremely small. The location is great cause it's about 5 minutes on the mini buses to pattaya beach.
DON T GO HERE!!!!
just got back from thailand...booked 3 nights at the amari orchid but left after one...
its a very run-down hotel...reason:they are building a very larg high-rise new one right next to it...nearly all of the gardens are gone and turned into a massiv building site....
view from the pool:15 storieconcrete new building....
work start at 7 in the morning with heavy vehicles and diggers...
hotel should have been closed down...dust and noise everywhere...
went with girlfriend...are bothfrequent travellers but never been to a hotel that sells condoms in the mini bar!!!!!!!!!
just dont go there....just a big dump at the moment cant see it getting much better in the near future....
Quiet gardens in busy Pattaya
The Amari's greatest asset is the large garden that insulates you from the noise of Pattaya. The location is good, with the 10 Baht buses passing by the front and back of the hotel every few minutes. A disadvantage is that only about 10 rooms (242 - 252) have a balcony, a major advantage in this climate. Buffet food was excellent, but there are many good value restaurants in Pattay.
A Great Place to Relax
My wife and I live in Bangkok and have stayed at the Amari Orchid Resort on three different occasions. I has become our standard lodging in Pattaya where we go for short breaks from Bangkok. It is a clean, very well maintained, low rise older property with a charm not present in most high rises. The open air reception area is lovely. The pool, as another reviewer has commented, is truly outstanding. And it is only a short walk down through the lovely gardens to the beach road and the beach where you can get a massage if you wish. I would recommend it for families because it is north of the tacky main beach area. When you do want something more lively, the main beach area is only a short songthiew ride away.
When travelling to Thailand, my girlfriend and I did not expect to have amazing services and facilities at our disposal. We had paid what we considered to be a very small amount of money for a five-star hotel. To us, the idea of 'five-star' in Thailand would be a lot different to Europe. How wrong we were!
A great hotel
I stayed at this hotel in July/August 2004, it was a good hotel at the quieter part of Pattaya. The staff were very friendly, especially 'Santana' who works at the poolbar, he made us laugh everyday.
Great Service. Nice Room. Great Breakfast. Good Price. I stayd here froom 04-09 juli and wish I could stayd here longer.
