Thailand: In the Middle

This was my quick trip to Thailand to work out whether or not it was suitable to relocate our family for a year for my husband's work. It's funny, it is not a place that was ever that high on my list of places to travel, let alone to live for a year with children. Ever since my first job after university I worked to travel and I have seen some pretty magic places, such as sailing a faluka boat down the Nile River in Egypt or watching the sunrise over Everest at 5 800 meters high. Historical Traveler Reviews of Amari Orchid Pattaya

Un desayuno estupendo

from rmeeuwsen
Amari Orchid Resort: Good Hotel that will soon become a great resort

from Hideo
Because I was aware of previous construction during previous visits to the Amari Orchid Resort in April and July of 2006, I booked a superior room at a great rate expecting to hear some construction noise but was pleasantly surprised to hear no noise.

I stayed at the Amari Resort and Tower from March 8 through March 10. I was pleasantly surprised at the changes that were in progress towards making this good hotel into a five star resort.

The gardens have been renovated and an elegant lap pool has been added. Across from the lap pool, the construction on the exterior of Ocean Tower building looked nearly complete. Next to the first class Mantra Restaurant and Bar, a new fitness center/spa/business center was being constructed.

In the past, I had stayed at the Amari Orchid Resort for its quieter North Pattaya location, good room value, and easy hotel website booking but now I look forward to experiencing the luxury of a five star resort (Ocean Tower Rooms, Fitness Center & Spa, Business and Conference Center Services, and Fine Dining) in July 2007.

Great Pool

from fionaonholiday
We stayed at the Amari and enjoyed the service and mainly the large pool. I've read the other review about the noise of construction from 2006 and it is actually still going on. There is a new building still in process facing the pool but it's just about completed. There's plenty of chairs for tanning and a large open area around the pool. Don't expect a big room for the US118+ a night because they are extremely small. The location is great cause it's about 5 minutes on the mini buses to pattaya beach.

DON T GO HERE!!!!

from nickohuls
just got back from thailand...booked 3 nights at the amari orchid but left after one...

its a very run-down hotel...reason:they are building a very larg high-rise new one right next to it...nearly all of the gardens are gone and turned into a massiv building site....

view from the pool:15 storieconcrete new building....

work start at 7 in the morning with heavy vehicles and diggers...

hotel should have been closed down...dust and noise everywhere...

went with girlfriend...are bothfrequent travellers but never been to a hotel that sells condoms in the mini bar!!!!!!!!!

just dont go there....just a big dump at the moment cant see it getting much better in the near future....

Quiet gardens in busy Pattaya

from adelaidedj
The Amari's greatest asset is the large garden that insulates you from the noise of Pattaya. The location is good, with the 10 Baht buses passing by the front and back of the hotel every few minutes. A disadvantage is that only about 10 rooms (242 - 252) have a balcony, a major advantage in this climate. Buffet food was excellent, but there are many good value restaurants in Pattay.

A Great Place to Relax

from Don_Muang
My wife and I live in Bangkok and have stayed at the Amari Orchid Resort on three different occasions. I has become our standard lodging in Pattaya where we go for short breaks from Bangkok. It is a clean, very well maintained, low rise older property with a charm not present in most high rises. The open air reception area is lovely. The pool, as another reviewer has commented, is truly outstanding. And it is only a short walk down through the lovely gardens to the beach road and the beach where you can get a massage if you wish. I would recommend it for families because it is north of the tacky main beach area. When you do want something more lively, the main beach area is only a short songthiew ride away.

Simply superb

When travelling to Thailand, my girlfriend and I did not expect to have amazing services and facilities at our disposal. We had paid what we considered to be a very small amount of money for a five-star hotel. To us, the idea of 'five-star' in Thailand would be a lot different to Europe. How wrong we were!

The Amari Orchid is an amazing facility based at the end of Pattaya beach. Away from the hustle and bustle of Pattaya town, the Amari Orchid is a luxurious delight. From its pristine facilities to unbeliveable service, it was a highlight for us in a two month holiday around Asia and Europe.

The rooms are outstanding, decked out in dark wood, pristine white sheets and sparkling bathrooms. There is every facility you'd expect from a five-star hotel, including satellite television, air conditioning and regular cleaning services. There are a plethora of restaurants and bars serving delicious food (asian and european) at ridiculously low prices. However for me, there was another highlight - the pool!

The pool at the Amari is a wonder, a place that you just don't want to leave. With temperatures soaring, just jump in the pool and cool off. While you're in, you can grab a cocktail from the pool bar, served to you by the always smiling, always joking bar staff. If you've cooled down, you can then book an hour and a half Thai massage for something like US$5.

There are taxis that can take you into Pattaya itself, which is an antithesis of the Amari's calm and sophisticated demeanour. If cheap clothes and cheap sex is your bang, Pattaya's got what you want. However, Pattaya is definitely safe for families, far more so than Bangkok.

If you're planning a short break in Thailand, consider Pattaya, and make sure you get to the Amari Orchid. It is simply one of the best hotels you'll visit for such a low price.

FOR: Price, facilities, service, all round experience

AGAINST: Nothing

SUM UP: Cheap travel at its most luxurious

A great hotel

I stayed at this hotel in July/August 2004, it was a good hotel at the quieter part of Pattaya. The staff were very friendly, especially 'Santana' who works at the poolbar, he made us laugh everyday.
