Bangkok

We arrived in Bangkok just before midnight on Thursday night, arriving at our hotel after one o'clock and if you looked at the traffic you would have thought it was morning rush hour. The hotel, the Amari Atrium is the height of luxury with 4 restaurants, 3 bars, swimming pool, gym and sauna. The entrance lobby alone is 10 stories high, and there are three enormous Santas swinging in a tree growing in the centre of the lobby. The Thai people make you feel so important and are always smiling a...

The plane journey was not too bad with Honey, nevertheless, was a whopping 10 hours, or around. I remember waving to India, on the way past! ha ha we landed finally, at a humid but warm airport, where I took a cab to our 5 star hotel pre booked in BANGCOCK (amari atrim), which was cool cos it had a pool on the roof that over looked bangcock for miles. I guess it would look like new york or some where from the top, which was very nice at night. did feel a bit lonely though as I really was on m...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Amari Atrium Bangkok

Loved the Amari Atrium and the Service

from A TripAdvisor Member
We had a group staying in the Amari Atrium and could not have been more pleased with the property and the service. The buffet breakfast has something for everyone, very international. Because of the upgrade to a wonderful suite, we had a party with room service that was simply elegant. This was my second trip to Thailand since January, 2005 and I would love to go back. It is a wonderful country with the most gentle and kind inhabitants. The employees at the Amari Atrium and management are all most concerned that every guest should be treated with the utmost of graciousness.

Great stay

from mamm
Stayed in this hotel twice while in thailand recently, and it was fabulous! Not in the centre but not far from it either, taxis always available outside.Rooms were lovely.Staff were very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast buffet was delicious so much to choose from! The pool and outdoor tub were great to relax in after a hard days shopping. The bar was also great, overall the hotel had a great feel. We stayed when we first arrived in bangkok, and when we returned at the end of our holiday for two nights we were upgraded to the exucutive floor on the very top with no extra charge! It was the nicest place i have ever stayed and i will definately stay again when i return to thailand. Enjoy!

Excellant value

from LittleBritain
The only hotel I have stayed in where the waitress got down on her knees to serve our drinks! Only downside is that it is a bit far out of town and we often had problems getting cabs to take us there. Recommended

What a Fantastic Hotel

from wisemj
We stayed here a couple of years ago taking my parents and upgraded to the executive suites for a very small cost - the rooms were fantastic and the private breakfast and sundowner facilties made it all worthwhile. What a fantastic hotel, the international buffet was so good we had it twice!

Stunning place to stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed here in May 2004. The rooms were excellent and contrary to one reviewers comments were of a very high standard. I have stayed in many 4 star hotels in the UK and this knocked the pants off them. When we were there some of the rooms were being totally refurbished as you could smell the glue from the carpet fitters so it is definately being 'done up.'

The location is set back from a busy dual carriageway. On the other side is a canal with boats whizzing past. We were very happy with the hotel. We stayed there two nights and then went to Koh Samui for 10 nights. We had our last night back in Bangkok and were delighted to get a free room upgrade - although all this actually meant was the the bed was turned ready for bedtime and orchids were placed on the bed.

The staff were very helpful.

Good hotel with friendly staff

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at the Amari Atrium hotel a few weeks back and overall enjoyed my stay there.

The hotel is a little dated and this goes particularly for the rooms. However, they are well maintained, immaculately clean and of a very good size.

The lobby is spacious and again very clean.

I arrived at the hotel very early in the morning (7 am) and was immediately allowed to check in. At the time they did not have a no smoking room avaialble. They asked me if I would like to use the smoking room until after lunch at which point I could change the room to an upgraded deluxe non smoking room.

I had one lunch buffet in the hotel and did not find it particularly good. The food tasted rather bland and was not very hot. However the choice of food was wuite extensive.

The hotel is located north of the very centre of Bangkok and a taxi ride can take a while, particularly during rush hour.

A good option to avoid the taxi is to walk to the nearby Subway station. This takes about 5-10 minutes along a busy main road.

The hotel also offers shuttle bus services free of charge to the Subway station and various spots in Bangkok. These have to be pre-booked as the shuttle only runs when booked.

I cannot praise the staff in this hotel enough. I have been treated with the utmost courtesy and friendliness. I am a frequent international traveller was satisfied with my stay there.

As I said I did enjoy my stay at the hotel a lot. However, the location is a bit of a downer and for my next stay I will choose a different location.

Bangkok's treasure

from A TripAdvisor Member
Having read some of the negative reviews posted on this site only a week prior to our honeymoon, we were slightly worried that this could put a downer on things. Well, we needn't worry. The hotel was well above average for a hotel of this class, and you couldn't possibly ask for more.

The staff were genuinely friendly, attentive and helpful. Upon our arrival, having been advised by our travel agent that we were honeymooners, we were treated to all the additional little luxuries to make us feel extra welcome.

The food in the main restaurant (Cascade) had excellent choices of Asian and Mediteranean cuisine, and was good value. The buffet breakfast was huge and also had good variety.

The rooms were clean, bright and spacious. The pool area on top of the Atrium, was quite tranquil considering you're in the middle of a buzzing city.

Yes, the location was slightly outside the main 'shopping' areas, but the hotel offered a complimentary shuttle service taking you to many of the major shopping/tourist areas throughout the day, that coupled with the fact that with Taxi's being so cheap, and the newly opened Underground station only 10 minutes walk away, I really don't know what people can moan about. If you want the hustle and bustle of areas like Patpong or Silom, then go and stay there, but if you want to relax and enjoy the vibrant city but not be right in the thick of things 24-7, then the Amari Atrium is really the place to stay.

In all, our experience of the Amari Atrium was extremely pleasant, friendly and really should be included as one of Bangkok's little treasures.

Still the best hotel we've stayed in in the world!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We absolutely loved this hotel and even 3 years on from our stay talk about it regularly and compare it to other hotels around the world. We were given a corner room on the sixth floor and the space and panoramic view were amazing. Fresh flowers in the room, rose petals on the bed and a bathroom bigger than many living rooms. A great, global buffet and fantastic service; all this for approximately £20/room/night. A previous reviewer mentioned that its location is a bit out of the way, but taxis are cheap and available. I am sure that you could stay in a more expensive and possibly better hotel, but for those of us who stay mainly at 3-4 star hotels, you will have to go some way to beat this hotel!

Would Meet most expectations

from A TripAdvisor Member
As 3 star Hotels go, this would meet and beat any standard that you would associate with that category. I've actually stayed in this Hotel 3 times now, first time through work and since then twice on Holidays and everytime i've enjoyed my stay. The staff our friendly and accommodating, Breakfasts would feed an army, Mingles Bar is nice to relax, in short standards are excellent and in no way can i really find a fault in this hotel except as the previous reviewer mentioned that it deserves a 4star rating. Amari hotels in general are a very good chain throughout Thailand. They have a sister hotel in Bangkok, which also is a cracking hotel but for true value for money you really can't go wrong with the Amari Atrium. If i get the chance to go back to Thailand you can be sure i'd have no hesitation in picking the Amari Atrium Again.

Rundown, shabby and shady

from A TripAdvisor Member
This dump is no longer worth either a 4 or 3 star designation. The rooms are run down and have not been renovated since opening day. Perhaps this doesn't bother the odd Patpong traveller, and indeed condoms are already provided in the rooms, but the quality of the rooms would certainly bother the more comfort-minded traveller.

Oddly, the first reviewer says the food at Mingles was great -- my meal there, however, was singularily the worst I had in Thailand, which is not saying much perhaps given that Thai food is terrific, but my Mingles meal would qualify as horrific anywhere in the world. The hotel's location is also a negative (certainly compared to Silom, Sukhomvit, Ploenchit, etc.), and you have to take a longish taxi ride to get anywhere central. To top things off, service at reception was rather rude, too.

I would stay away from this hotel -- there are a lot of significantly better hotels in Bangkok for the same or slighly higher price.
