Bangkok Blues

I arrived in Bangkok midday--knowing no one, having nowhere in particular to go...

After collecting my bags and being hit on by no less than two sleasy, single male travellers on my way through customs ("I'm a reporter? Been behind the lines in Afghanistan--What's your scoop?" and "I'm a rock climber, and I sky dive just for kicks--nothing like the rush you get from jumping out of a plane. How about you, what do you do for a rush?"--yoga, ********). The wreak of one's cologne s...

Breaking Free

It was my very first experience to set foot at Bangkok, Thailand. I had the privilege to be able to get to experience it thanks to the stop over stop I had with the airline. There was a language barrier for me during my stay there but nonetheless, the local people in the area were very friendly and hospitable. Once I got myself checked in with one of their hotels, I was totally amazed with their accommodations. It was HUGE! It had a big space where I can just run around about. First thing I c...

... massage it was time for dinner. We had one place in mind, May Kaidees; lovely veggie food and very cheap too!

On our way to dinner who did we see but Guy, a Thai man we had met in Koh Pangan. (Lesson 2 you never know who you will meet again, even if you think its all over, the world is a small place). It was really nice to see him and he was full of 'ohhhhhhhh'. After a delicious meal we headed back to say hi and have a drink. Bee was there too (a ...

... we told him we'd just take the one) and began taking pictures with it. Soon, we noticed that people at the restaurant nearby had stopped chatting to watch us as we kind of squealed and squirmed at the prospect of eating the grasshopper. A few passersby also stopped to watch. First Whitney snapped one of the hind legs off and ate it, and then I did the same. We both agreed it didn't taste bad. Next, Whitney ate a bit of the end of the spiracle (end of the abdomen) which she said tasted ...

Political rantings from abroad

... I mean I've called W. a complete moron in my day, but I don't think that's totally unjustified.

I feel ambivalent about Obama's current disposition. I have to be proud of his refusal to devolve into demagoguery but at the same time I've been watching a lot of Bill Maher and I sympathize with Maher's stance that there is a 'major political party standing in the President's way and it's the Democratic party' as well as his claim ...

Last night in Thailand :(

... placed the incense upright in a tray filled with sand and put the lit candles in a candle holder. Then we put the flower in a large tray filled with other flowers.

Next we went to a statue of the Buddha (or something) and unfolded the paper we’d saved. Inside was a small square sheet of gold. We stuck the sheet of gold on the statue. I put mine on the statue’s left hand because I’m left handed and it seemed appropriate. Next we poured the special water ...

First couple of days

... m thinking that was a lie, but $20 still is decent. The room isn't as pretty as the one at the "Sleep Withinn" but there's still a pool on the roof and it's off of Khao San Road but still really close. I find Khao San Road great but the tuk tuk drivers are constantly hounding you to choose them and it's only 10 baht blah blah blah. They always ask the question "Where you from" which I'm going to stop answering. Maybe if ...

Sorry to do this, but I know I won't keep up to date with the blog once I am home. Far more important things on my mind.

I'm just going to recap the past few days after the Full Moon party and bring you right up to date.
The Irish guys stayed for another two days and we hung around with them most of the time. Honestly some of the nicest people I have met, and we all got on really well. Had meals a few times and a few cocktails on the beach one evening (after a few days ...
