Perhaps the strangest thing about Death Valley is the sound… there is none apart from the warm winds that wash up and down the valley. there is no bird song - the occasional raven squawks, the odd scuttling thing rustles a creosote bush, but there is no traffic sound, just empty, ageless, silence, echoing across the barren salt flats.
