We left and made our way to the perhentuan islands. we got a two buses and a speed boat taking us all in aorund 6hours to the island. The usland is very wuiet as it is getting ready for monsoon season so very little people remain we stayed in one of about 4places left to stay and there were only 2 resturants open! We had a walk to coral bay where we went through a jungle and saw huge lizzards squirrls rat butterflys and even farm hens!! Spent the rest of ...
Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia danielkeyes02... Ramadan or something...

Eventually our bus pulls up and we jump on board and grab 2 seats together even though we have seat numbers at opposite ends of the bus!! This is where we can play the 'dumb tourist' card and pretend we don't understand, just the locals do when you give them a big note and they don't give you chage or the Perve Patrol ot moving us rooms for 3 days because they don't understand!! Our moment comes round quiet quickly when ...

Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia kaixin_smile... us to the Bunga Raya backpacker's hostel, which we'd booked up ahead but when we arrived the door was locked! (we were 2 hrs later than we told them we'd be so maybe not too surprising). Two doors up was the KB Backpacker's hostel and, well not the time to be choosy, we went in. Ugggh! The room was dirty, no windows, bare stained walls - the toilet was even dirtier with god knows what lurking on the walls and the ...
Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia martynandsarah... we were down to our last few Ringitt. The road itself is good and at the moment it's pretty flat although that's about to all change. The scenery is nice, jungle, rice paddies and little stone or wooden built houses along the road. The Malaysians don't appear to be all wrapped up in cars as status symbols, in fact most people are driving old bangers. There's the odd boy racer with his go faster spoiler on the back and some newer ...
Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia 50odd... the speed of life and relaxation that it can bring. We spent one night sipping Beam on the beach, enjoying the view and listening to the appalling sound systems of one of the island bars. I read this book on the US and Middle East, titled Power, Faith and Fantasy(highly biased horse ****, easy and unrewarding read since it is a NY best seller. The author actually signed his name and added Hartford and Jerusalem at the end.) and 1434(The follow up to 1421 ...
Perhentians, Malaysia mericanomad... to the jetty by one of the staff.. There, we paid the National Park entrance fee of RM5 before boarding the resort fast craft to our destination.. A smooth sailing 30min ride whilst gazing out to Terengganu's sandy coastline and lush green headlands that met the richly coloured ocean.. a refreshing sea breeze that seems to negate the sleeplessness from the coach ride.. Ahh.. simply heavenly!
Kuala Besut, Malaysia gin_gy... we had spoke to said he nearly starved as the food weas so bad in the viallage but i think we dont have that high standards as we found it to be fine and the location more than made up for it. We spent one full day in the rainforest and did this walk to a lookout which we thought wouldnt take too long but was actually 3 hours, most of it uphill which was really tiring cos of the heat and humiddity. We then went on a canopy walk which i hadnt really given that much thought but it ...
Kota Bharu, Malaysia russellffc... do not recommend it because the relentless and unending pitches about her services do not allow you to relax. And the bathrooms could use a good cleaning and had no toilet paper. Enough of that. On Tuesday morning, we woke up bright and early to catch a taxi to the ferry and were on the Island by 10:30am. What island? The Perhentian Islands - two beautiful islands just off the northeastern coast of Malaysia. Scuba diving, beautiful beaches, and lush jungles. Cheers, Frank
Kota Bharu, Malaysia slipperycoconut... and they're really quite hard to see if they don't move. You get to within a yard or two and all of a sudden there's a small dragon shifting around in the shadows... I think I was probably in more danger from leaping backwards into the ocean in surprise than from the lizards though. I did get slightly ill the day before I left... not with a stomach problem, but with a fever. I'm still a bit disappointed with the whole 'scary tropical diseases' thing...
