Grote Markt 10 Haarlem, Noord-Holland, Netherlands, 2011RD, 23-532-4530

I think Amsterdam is the safest city I've ever been in - including Denver. The marajuana thing? I'm pretty sure it's a trick to keep people, tourists, from causing trouble. Went museum hopping. Van gough was nuts. I mean I knew that obviously, but the museum here arranged his paintings chronologically and his nuttiness is easy to see when you look at them like that. The energy in the paintings isn't something that comes through in prints. They look like they're about to explode off the canvas...
Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands homebodyabroadThe three of us arrived in Brussels nice and early on Wednesday and headed on the train for Haarlem, the Netherlands. We stayed at the Hotel Amadeus which sits right on the Grote Markt in Haarlem. We got checked in and headed out for lunch and some beers. One of the items on the itinerary was lunch at one of the outdoor spots on the Grote Markt. We fulfilled that item while dealing with what seemed like 50 mph cold wind gusts. We survived by looking at the cool architecture and enjoying a few...
Haarlem, Netherlands stephtoddUp bright and early on Thursday for breakfast at the Hotel Amadeus before taking the train to Amsterdam. Unfortunately, we were in for a rainy day so we decided to focus on museums today in order to reduce the amount of time spent outside. Our first stop was the Anne Frank House. The museum takes you through what the building was used for (Otto Frank's spice business/warehouse) and then through the rooms that made up their living area. There is no longer furniture in the house but it still lo...
Amsterdam, Netherlands stephtoddWe spent the first part of the day in Haarlem. They had some markets, including one in the large square right outside of our hotel. There was another smaller one up the street from us as well. I was able to walk around town a little on my own. I checked out some more canals, including the area where the bigger boats come in. It was also a location of the town's historic De Adriaan Windmill. Later, the guys joined me and we looked at the canal and windmill again before going to a museum in Haa...
Haarlem, Noord-Holland, Netherlands stephtoddWe saw Neil off to Amsterdam for his flight back to St. Louis before heading into Amsterdam for a last day of sightseeing (after taking out some time to do some laundry). While waiting on the laundry, I saw outside and listened to the church bells call everyone to church...whole families arriving on bikes. It was kind of cool. We had previously tried to go to the Amstelkring Museum but missed the right times so we made sure we were today when it was open. After waiting on a wedding to finish ...

... he is, if he plays basketball, where he is from, and if they can take pictures with him. I can't tell you how often this happens. And then he needs to stand there and start talking to them. The amount of time we have probably wasted on this trip waiting while people gawk at his height....ridiculous! After the "photo session" with the high schoolers, we went off in search of a bar, only to find one with a guy in his 50's ...
Amsterdam, Netherlands dzarren... sitting there with Champaigne glass in hand as other passengers passed by on their way to the cheap seats at the back! Life at this point couldn`t get any better.Oh it was a hard life snuggling down into our alomost horizontal reclining chairs, to be waited on hand and foot for the long 16 hour flight. It didn´t really matter to us, we were just enjoying it, blanket wrapped, ear plugs in, eyeshades on- see you in the morning, in Ecuador!
Amsterdam, Netherlands amigos2ninos... and other performers, watched buskers at the Leidseplein, went to bake in the sun and substance of Vondel Park and savoured the fine local and international cuisine. My one regret is that I didn't visit Madame Tussaud's world famous wax museum. I promise (mainly to myself) that I'll go next time, and will blog photos and stories too... Amsterdam, Netherlands showme... back to the hotel, in this little old fashioned town, along comes a Hummer. It was almost as wide as the street and it looked so out of place. Anyway, for dinner we had all you could eat buffet which was a very nice deal. It came complete with ice-cream for dessert and as much custard you could take. Very nice. After this we were taken into central Amsterdam to see the night life. We took a walk through the Red Light District and down the famous Skinny Street. It was a lot ...
Amsterdam, Netherlands laura-jean... The next morning was our last, and for the first time in five months, if felt like a traditional Sunday. We all took Sophie to the NEMO science museum for kids and completely enjoyed the cool, interactive displays. In retrospect, we should have hit a coffee shop first because it would have made it even more entertaining. Then Alli and I walked through the red light district to get one more look at the prostitutes in the windows. A few days earlier I had failed to find the attractive ...
