Arrived in Haarlem around 18:00 and checked into our hotel "Hotel Amadeus". Great location right in the main square. As soon as we go in our room we left and did laundry. It was difference but the people were helpful and got the laundry done quickly.

Stopped in to a coffee house for a toke and a light dinner of a falafel (very good!) then called it quits for the night.

... to an outdoor market where he forced all of us to try this disgusting raw fish. I almost threw up all over everyones shoes, but hey I tried it. To wash away the taste, we got fresh stroopwafels which are these thin waffles that have syrup in the middle. I brought a few packages back to Dublin and am gonna try to save one for home! That night we had an awesome canal cruise before heading out one last time to this club inside of an old church that was pretty cool.

What a mess of a morning, although we got to the airport in plenty of time the line ups for "economy" were a disaster. After we finally got to the machine we didn't have the right boarding code so I couldn't make it work at this point some lady told us oh you have a stroller you can go in some other line. That line was really no better and took forever to get checked in. Once that ordeal was finally over we headed to the gate were we ...

        ... at the central station.

The hot noon sun brings the visitors in swarms out of the station, quickly seeking shade and refuge in the canal side bars, restaurants and cafes. The canals quickly become lively motorways of cruise boats, barges and pleasure craft.

The haze of yesterday clears and the city returns to its vibrant, noisy, colourful self - the week has begun….

Bright eyed and bushy tailed I went out to catch my taxi this morning to take me to the airport Flyer bus drop off point. At 4.30am, I didn't realise the bus would be packed - with airport staff starting their early shifts. It was a beautiful morning. There was a lovely sunrise, the sky was streaked red and the plane took off in perfect conditions. It was exciting flying over the Bristol channel and clearly seeing the Severn crossings and boats all in miniature. Amsterdam airport ...
