We arrived in Passau a little before breakfast. I slept a little late because Al was snoring and I was wide awake so I caught up on my journal entries. Just heard from Sylvia and Sue Ball that Erica is in labor!! So exciting!! Now I have a reason to buy a little Austrian sweater for a baby!!
We had a quick breakfast and then headed off our ship for our tour of ...

    Bus trip to Czech Republic

We actually never made it to Passau, Germany. The ship stopped in Aschach, Austria for us to get on the bus for our trip to Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic. The ship then continued on to Passau where we were taken after our tour. The water levels in the Danube are so low that the Captain was concerned that we might get stuck in Passau, so he went through the lock and docked further upstream. Overnight he said that the ship would have 20 cms clearance from the bottom of ...

Passau's magnificent baroque St Stephen's Cathedral located on the highest point in old town. It was nearly destroyed by fire in 1662 when fire swept through the town. All five parts of the organ can be played at once or separately from the main keyboard.

... Baroque style versus the Gothic style, but there was still a mix. The church was magnificent. Apparently the Bishop Princes, were very egocentric people, and they loved building extravagant buildings and putting their personal touches on them. See if you can see the difference compared to the churches I've posted in the past. Definitely not an ABC (another bloody church). After touring the city ...

    Day 5-The big swap day

A travel blog entry by mrandonian on Oct 06, 2015

We're going to do a total boat swap today with the Viking Var.

Next port on the original itinerary is Passau, Germany. However, the Danube in Passau is too shallow (by a few inches) for our boat to sail past so we are docked in Linz (Austrian side of impasse). The Viking Var is cruising in the opposite direction from ours and cannot get beyond the impasse from their location on the German side of the impasse. So ...
