Test finishes early but Melbourne still delights

A travel blog entry by dainty

It was probably predictable but yet again England flattered to deceive and in the end gave up the fourth test pretty lamely during the second session of the fourth day. No one, ok maybe Peterson, came out with any great credit and there seems little hope of avoiding the 5-0 whitewash when we get to Sydney . However the trials of the cricket cannot …

Reisetag - auf nach Melbourne

A travel blog entry by zarraz

Australia's Artsy City

A travel blog entry by camac52

We arrived in Melbourne late on Wednesday the 27th, in the rain on a day that had been 37 degrees; well it isn't nearly as warm now so as they say here we had to 'rug up'. We did a nice walking tour of the lanes and arcades and there are a lot in a very small section of the city. There is art everywhere, musicians playing along the streets, lots of …

Melbourne Finale - the best for last.

A travel blog entry by canningt

This morning we took a stroll down across Spencer St. noticing that the construction project is progressing right on, or slightly ahead of schedule. Asphalt is being placed over the fresh concrete and the Tram-works electrical crews are cutting down the old overhead electrical cables and supporting cables and lo-and-behold, the new ones are already …

The Highlight of Melbourne

A travel blog entry by canningt

As I mentioned we were late getting back from the Tramcar Restaurant last eveing so I didn't write. It was absolutely wonderful: grreat service, excellent food and liquor, and marvelous company. Erica and Derek met us at the pick-up point and we were off with a five course dinner all prepared in a tiny little galley, by a single chef with two …

We stayed here with another couple for 6 days and found the hotel and staff to be most satisfactory. The only downside is that the city decided to do a major overhaul of the tram-works about a block away over a 2 km section on Spencer Street over the Easter/ANZAC long weekend meaning lots of noise and tram and road traffic disruption.
