Australia's Artsy City

We arrived in Melbourne late on Wednesday the 27th, in the rain on a day that had been 37 degrees; well it isn't nearly as warm now so as they say here we had to 'rug up'. We did a nice walking tour of the lanes and arcades and there are a lot in a very small section of the city. There is art everywhere, musicians playing along the streets, lots of …

Along the Great Ocean Road to Melly

We got on the road this morning at 07:45 – 10 degrees with a light mist and a bright rainbow - and headed into the sun towards Warnambool and along the Great Ocean Road to Torquay then inland to Geelong and finally to Melbourne. We stopped in Peterborough at the first scenic lookout towards the Great Ocean (and it truly is). At 12:15 as we …

Wayyne and I got the Kluger returned to Hertz this morning and walked back to the hotel; no issue with having it overnight and extra night. We got in contact with Erica and met with her and Derek at the 'i' at Federation Square; to get there we had to walk past the tram-way construction again - I'm sure they must have every damned hydraulic …

Around and About Melly

Today we got a bit later start than we have been and started by buying tram tickets then walking to the Queen Victoria Market. It is huge with most everything one could ask for and the produce was to die for. There were parsnips 2-3" in diameter and almost a foot long and every kind of exotic fruit and melon you could think of. After an hour or so …

After some investigation last evening we found a suitable church to attend this morning - St. Michael's Uniting Church, a large church with a three-sided balcony (similar to First United in Truro) which was full this morning, including us. Erica figures that unlike Canada, where our churches united 75 years ago, the unification is still a work in …

    Great place to stay

We stayed here with another couple for 6 days and found the hotel and staff to be most satisfactory. The only downside is that the city decided to do a major overhaul of the tram-works about a block away over a 2 km section on Spencer Street over the Easter/ANZAC long weekend meaning lots of noise and tram and road traffic disruption.
