... Thompson group joined us. These folks were here on a viewing trip and were not riders. They were characters however and dressed up in all sorts of crazy outfits. They had a lot of energy. The rest of us however were all pretty spent after cycling for 5 straight days.

After I ate and drank a bunch of water I found a tree and took a little nap. I don't know how long I slept but it was much needed rest. Pretty soon more and more Tour traffic was driving by. Each team ...

As the hot afternoon continued you could start to here the TV helicopters flying around overhead. At one point I counted 5 helicopters. They fly at different heights and have high tech cameras that can zoom in on the riders. The riders began to make their way up the mountainside. We took our positions along a sharp left hand curve. ... The day was only done so back on the
bike we climbed. During this ride the weather was clear, sunny and very hot for
the Alps. Avg temperatures were in the low 90s. Thankfully the humidity was
low. It was much better than riding in Austin in July and August. I tried to
stay focused on drinking and eating a lot throughout the day.

Our next climb, the Col des Aravia was short, only a few
miles, with an average incline of 3%. Our joke was that 3% ...

Up early this morning, truth is I woke at 3am and couldn't get back to sleep. I need to be down at St Jean du Maurienne for the start of the Etape by 6:45am and I have a 30min drive to get there from my base at Valmeinier.

Here's the breakfast plan, make a cup of coffee tip it into a drink bottle, grab some eats for breakfast (madeleines, banana, drinking yogurt plus 2 stale "pain au chocolates" I pinched from the hotel ...
