... way which is odd because the climate and soil seems ideally suited. However there are fruit trees everywhere. A woman put a box ripe peaches on the path free for the taking. A man approached us offering plums from his garden. Apples, pears and plums falling from the tree. The sweet smell of fruit rotting in the sun.
Anyway, only 50km tomorrow to a place called Barby. I hardly wait.

It's hard to know where to begin. There is so much variety on this route. We have been cycling through a 400 kilometer long biosphere that is a UNESCO heritage site. It is the flood plain of Elb and because it was behind the Iron Curtain it's totally untouched by heavy industry. The result is marshes and woodlands that are among the most species rich in all of Europe. There are also many medieval villages ...
... a Beaver living in there which we spotted that
evening, we managed to get some pictures although not great pictures
due to our general lake of picture taking skill at night!
We had a good night sleep and the next day decided to stay another
night, mainly because Sarah wanted to go on Beaver watch again that
night, and also because of the good night sleep we had the previous
night! We never saw the Beaver ...
... with a nice cup of tea, followed by afternoon tea! I did take a sample of the Quarkkeulchen up for Colin but he missed out on the afternoon tea.
We then joined a galley tour, one of the most interesting tours of the week. How six chefs prepare such outstanding food from a galley that small is beyond belief.
We only had half an hour to explore Magdeburg so just walked to the bridge and back before returning to ...
... in the shade. it was like a furnace by the time in the tent! the weekend had extremely good weather - top temperature was 38 degrees! After a little while we managed to conjure the energy to go for a swim which was so beautiful :-) the lake was surrounded by private property so we had to sneak to people's yard to swim.. But so was everyone else. Then we found an open gate. The lake was so beautiful , each house had a little jetty to jump off ...
