Random Kindness Pays off

So ha. Some of you have chided us for the dangers of picking up strangers, yet now it is us who may teach you a lesson. Nathan, the friendly stranger, needed a ride to Joe's Valley to go meet some climbing friends of his who knew a bit more about the area. Well, when Saturday morning comes around, Nathan and his friends show up at our campsite with their jeep and invite us along to a place called New Joe's ...

Cabin in the Wasatch Mountains

Shortly after we arrived in SLC a cabin opened itself up in the Wasatch Mountains... a short drive out of town... Dana and Brian took the opportunity and we packed up food and big toys and headed up into the cool mountain air for a few days of R&R, Utah style... which means lots of hikes, bike rides and other outdoor action...

It was a nice little cabin... old and cozy ...

The Tour Starts!

We were went out for our Camfel tour on Monday. We have 2 1/2 days to make it to Illinoise for our first show. Here goes road tripping across the country!

We have loved it. The first night we stayed in Manti, Utah. Expedia found a shady motel way too far off the route. They were closed when we arrived, but on the office door was ...

A Long Day of Nothing But the Open Road

... P

So we finally left, had to pick up people at Rowland Heights, and then stopped at Barstow for "Happy Hour". Oh man! and another thing, to get everyone's attention, the tour guide said, "Cuckoo! Cuckoo!" in his happy voice. I gotta say, although this sounded ridiculous and funny, his cuckoo sound definitely got everyone's attention! :) Our next stop was lunch at Las Vegas! Whoo! We ended up eating together, all 60 of us, at a Chinese Buffet for $10. Not ...

Danger and tough

the 75 miles from Provo to Price are very beautiful I would imagine on a nicer day with better road conditions. Hwy 6 is under construction most of the way. We got up early to try to aviod some of the traffic. That ment 5am breakfast and 6:15 on the road. Unlike Florida the wind is up early and we had to go through a canyon that has a wind farm in it and of course the ...

Zion

On my way to Bryce I drove through the Zion NP, it was even more touching than my destination. The red rocks, the rock window, simply touching. I also bought one piece of Navajo pottery. It is now with me in my living room, reminding me the savage landscape and romantic curving road.

Utah - we still think it is beautiful

... about settling Utah! Beauty all around! Well, San Francisco is still a way to go so we had better start making a move since we don't have much time before we fly out. We have made the decision to hit the interstate and just travel to Reno for the final fling before the last few hours to San Fran. We put some miles behind us and spent the night at Payton. Tomorrow it's onto the Interstate 80 and push for Reno. Hmmmm - might have to play a couple of tables tomorrow night!

The Beginning

About this blog:

This travel blog isn't typical. I didn't start writing it at the beginning of my travels. I started this blog after I moved back to Utah from Hawaii, which I realized had become a common occurrence in my life. Leave Utah, move back, leave, move back. It all goes back to the U.S. higher education system and money, which would take me forever to explain so I'll just leave it at that. I wrote the entries from Hawaii ...

Bryce Canyon

... but after Bryce there was no comparison. That night we tried to find a bar in the local town, but this being Utah meant there was absolutely nothing!! So since it was so bloody cold we ended up having a couple of beers in the lobby of this massive hotel nearby and going back to make a fire. That night the temp dropped well below 32 and we froze our asses off! Bryce Canyon is at 8000 feet so needless to say we decided we would leave the next afternoon to get back to warmer ...
