Biking the Bridge

... telling people about the bad weather is he?

As we approached the huge bridge the fog only thickened and when we reached the first of the monolithic towers we could barely see 10 meters in front, never mind the top of the bridge. Only the deafening sound of the traffic speeding by, the gail force wind, the fog horns sounding from ships passing blind underneath and the rain hammering down. What a pair of schmucks we were renting ...

First Milestone accomplished

... great pictures of hundreds of sea lions, attended Part 1 of my 20 year high school reunion, and head really a great time. Good to see everyone, from Nicole, Heather, and Cheryl, to old high school buddies, Nancy, Damian, Guy, Justine, Nicole, and so many others. More later. I'll post pictures soon.

My new life in San Francisco!

So I'm continuing this (much out of date) blog, to talk about my new life in San Francisco. I figured it was easier than starting over completely (and there might be other travel adventures in the near future).  I moved out here from New Orleans a few months ago after our whirlwind European travels, and I'm still adjusting to life in SF. I have a good group of friends out here from Dartmouth ...

Aliens and fog

... the car up and up and up, we come into this blinding fog. Deciding to explore the woods and take some pictures that made us look slightly 'alien', we danced our way through the woods and finally, reaching the top, the fog parts and we get our 'shot'. It worked our perfect, just like the rest of the trip. Off we go down the PCH!!!

Alcatraz Tour

... there was about 20 man made piers and probably 300 Sea Lions just relaxing and chilling about 5 metres from the pier - absolutely amazing to see wildlife in its own habitat (see live webcam during US daytime hours at attached link http://www.pier39.com/) They were barking, fighting, relaxing and just having a good time - we literally spent about 1 hour just watching them go. Back onto the transport and back to downtown. It was time for a bit of lunch and ...

... un rato en bici hasta encontrar una franquicia de las bicis abierta. Pero la llegada merecio la pena. Estos americanos!!! Un tio nos felicito por haber hecho el viaje en bici!! Well done guys!!

What to take to China

... to China, I distinctively remember a feeling that I would need to buy all necessary items for my trip before I left the US. While there certainly is worth to the old Boy Scout adage of "always be prepared," you can save yourself quite a bit of money buy waiting until you arrive in China to buy certain products. Here's a rundown, from my experience, of what to buy in China, and what to buy before you go to China.* Contacts and Eyeglasses The last time I bought a pair of glasses in the ...

Sitting on the dock of the bay.....

... couple who turned out to be our age and really cool people. Together we figured out how to get to Sausalido and made the last ferry back to SF and getting a good view of Alcatraz on the way back. The ride in total took us about 5 hours with a couple of stops to soak it all in. Paul (Pablo Ringo), Melissa, Dave and I ended up hanging out for the rest of the evening getting some good Italian food and hitting a ...

Blackies Pasture

Well, I'm getting way behind here. We've been awfully busy. We did make it back to Blackies Pasture. Blackie was an old cavalry horse that lived his days out in a pasture along 131 on the way to Tiburon. He was without a doubt the most sway backed horse I've ever seen but was beloved by the people. The citizens have made ...

At The Airport

... seats alone and we weren't squished between any other people. British Airways actually made it as painless as possible with decent enough food and on-demand personal televisions in the seat backs. We even got a couple of hours of sleep in on the plane.
