Hauptplatz, 1 Mürren, Bernese Oberland, Swiss Alps, Switzerland, 3825
In our search for Switzerland accomodations in the off season, we found that Gimmelwald (our first thought) wasn't going to work for us. Thankfully, we found an establishment in Murren, Switzerland that was not only highly rated, it was also open at the time we ...
Well we left Rome on our sleeping car adventure to head to Interlaken...that was an experience. I don't really know why people would pay extra for the sleeping cars as opposed to the normal night trains...it was probably just as comfortable as the reclining seats and probably more of a nuissance. We were sharing a car with all women so that was nice...2 young girls for Austrailia, one girl from Italy and then an old woman from Italy as well ...
Interlaken, Swiss Alps, Switzerland kkb-myadventure... the mornin just like Carcassonne... It was still dark, we waited in the train station for about 1 hour to let it get a little light out... we then started walkin to the hostel... it was actually quite easy to find... the directions they gave were good this time, good job Hostel World! We were able to put our bags in storage and then we went adventurin... we took the train up a mountain to a small village... it was just a small ski village (I ...
Interlaken, Swiss Alps, Switzerland crossin_oceansThis morning we set out for the famous Swiss Alps. Think Sound of Music. Yes, I know that was set in Austria, but think of the setting nonetheless. We took a morning train from Zurich to Interlaken, where we would spend the night. The approach into the Alps was breathtaking. Technically it's breathtaking in more ways than one, because at the higher altitudes it does become a little more difficult to breath, but not as noticable as I've ...
Interlaken, Swiss Alps, Switzerland trockie... and we're beat and back at our trading post/B&B thingy. Mila is already in bed and I'm busy trying to keep you all informed. I can barely keep my eyes open. Tomorrow we'll try and do what we couldn't do today because of poor weather conditions - make it to the top of Schilthorn. It's the second tallest peak you can summit in Europe and not have to be in shape to do it. The Swiss have got the entire mountain range wired with cable cars.
Mürren, Bern, Switzerland laters... gondola. It was a peaceful scene, especially since it was off season, complete with the resident cows and goats and dairy barns. We hiked back and stopped for a couple bottles of Rugenbrau, the local beer, for enjoyment on our awesome balcony at the hotel. As we’ve experienced many times around Seattle, sometimes the best part of a hike is the reward afterwards.
It seems one of the best ways to see Switzerland is by train. The train system there ...
... down the slopes. It took another 45 minutes for us to reach Trummelbach falls, so we paid the 11 Franc entry fee and checked it out. A funicular took you up half way, and you could hear the roar of the water plummeting down into the mountain. 20 000 litres of water per second, from the Jungfrau, Eiger and Monch, runs through these falls, amazing.. Another 45 minutes took us to our final destination, Lauterbrunnen. We ...
Mürren, Switzerland flashpackers... that I had always dreamt of going to ever since I was young, so I was extremely excited, despite a 10 hour train journey with 5 changes.. Our day started off at around 5.15am, when we had to get ready and at the train station by 6am to catch the train to Monterosso. From there, we changed trains and caught the next one to Milan. This journey took roughly 2 hours so I caught up on a little sleep, while Brian played on the DS.. The scenery started ...
Mürren, Swiss Alps, Switzerland flashpackersLUGANO Fifty minutes into our bus journey from Menaggio we entered Switzerland and had our passports checked for the first time in almost three months. Good job we got them back yesterday! For the last week Paul has been itching to get to a new country. After forty days in Italy he had figured out how things work and the novelty value of hole-in -the ground toilets had worn off. The first thing we noticed in Switzerland was that traffic ...
