It is 5:38 pm Italy time... how do I know this???... because our plane has actually landed in Italy. It's a miracle!!! The drive from our hotel is 40 minutes. Along the way I am struck by the beautiful flowering bushes, crazy fast driving and the graffiti. Once we hit about 30 minutes into the drive you start to see the tops of the famous Italian buildings and the quaint shops. The city really bustles to life with everyone vying for parking ...

... every man in his car was flying past me. As its Sunday it was great that there was hardly a single truck on the road but it was certainly extremely busy with cars. Something tells me it’s the end of a holiday week or something and everyone is heading home.

I knew this lovely fast riding could not last forever and sure enough its traffic jam after traffic jam. These were caused by roadwork’s or lane closures etc. Sometimes these jams went on for miles on end. ...

They had prepared some egg noodles, a bunch of different steamed veggies (including white asparagus which is apparently a local dish,) delicious homemade bread, and some kind of fish stew for everyone else. After dinner, we had coffee and ate a mountain of homemade Christmas cookies and chocolates and candied ginger, and then we ate the real dessert: a warm stew of raspberries and cherries with vanilla ice cream ...
