        ... found a different path near the gorge, climbing bridge rails etc etc to get some decent photos.




        Still alive, we traveled back to Salzburg slowly, walked the river by night and checked out the cathedral all while consuming pumpkin soup, chocolate, apple strudel and coffee.

        ... and loving it.    Hallstatt is a tiny picturesque village located on the most eastern point of the Alps. Glaciers moved through the area millions of years ago and carved steep valleys and now mostly all melted have created beautiful lakes. The town is quaint with tiny shops, cafes, and people bustling around in the crisp, fall air. Just above Hallstatt lies one of the oldest salt mines in Europe that offers daily tours and a good insight into the area's history. We didn't ...

        ... walk and the following day a cycle to St Gilgen town and further along the lake shore. I still take great delight in my “new” bicycle.





        Salzburg was good too. We met Dawn at the airport and went to explore the charming old town. Even in the rain it has something special – like hot chocolate, lovely buildings and the riverside walk fringed in autumn glory.

        ... space was so limited in Hallstatt, a person usually remained undisturbed in their grave for 12 years. After that, their bones were dug up and placed in a bone house behind the church. The skulls were painted with the person's name and decorated, and their other bones were stacked together like firewood! The priests' skulls were elevated on a box and had candles beside them.         ... We also arrive at the Saturday market as they are beginning to disband. We invest in some cheese and consider, but reject, roast chicket from a spit, and/or fish soup from the fishman. Just in time we purchase return ferry tickets to St Wolfgang down the lake - €30 for two. It was wonderful sitting in the sunshine on deck as we stopped at various points en route, Somewhat reminiscent of the Geneva lake circular trip. Better yet a beer ...
