... Most people who know me will have heard the story of how I once held my bladder for 10 hours straight on a bus in China (unlike everyone else, I didn't feel hugely comfortable peeing in a plastic bucket in the aisle), so I'm feeling quietly confident I can manage until we take our first rest stop on this journey. ... land so only cow pats remained. Only a little forest here, but once we got past a larger resort (mainly for cross country skiing and long distance hiking) we got into more forest. Went down a sharp descent and came across some fellow cutting trees on the side of the track. At several points it was barely paved and shrank down to a single lane for both directions as it snaked through the countryside and eventually the woods. ... the dry riverbed, then alongside it. Just lovely in the forest with the autumn colours on the opposite hillside and sun shining through the leaves. This part was about 10km. Passed the famous Chorinskyklause, another of the log dams. Think it must just be famous in Austria as I could find no reference to it on the net in English. It was in a lovely spot though and just below it the river went through a narrow gorge with falls. Finally made our destination at ...

Friday 10th October Leisurely breakfast this morning and time to catch up on news before catching the bus to Bad Ischl, about 70 km east of Salzburg. Bus journey was through lovely green pastures with plenty of cattle grazing. Even saw some with bells on! Stopped at a lovely little village Fuschl on the most picturesque lake. Such an idyllic view. Bus only went as far as St Gilgen (on another lake) so had to wait about half an hour to ...
