    ... friends we met at a hostel in San Francisco 2 1/2 years ago (The Green Tortoise) on our first major trip - one lives in Munich and one in Berlin. They told us if we ever came to Europe we'd have a place to stay with them in Germany - a promise we really weren't sure we would ever take advantage of! Although we only spent 2-3 days with them in San Fran, we've kept in touch via Facebook and are very much looking forward to catching up with them and seeing their part of the world. Cheers! ...

    ... night at Saran Essbar, a lovely little restaurant on one of the main streets of Salzburg. Our friend Penny Ellis had recommended this restaurant, and she was so right to do so.     ... we had to don our macs-in-sacs. Some time later we were entertained by a cracking double rainbow, heralding the passing of the worst weather. We were also hunted down to pay for our pitch. In spite of the ACSI deal finishing the previous day, we were offered the same rate provided we pay up front, as there would be no one around to chase us tomorrow. Deal! - €19 including taxes. Amongst other sights we spot the steepest rack railway in Austria, the oldest paddle steamer in Austria, several parapenters, a couple if brave/stupid souls climbing a sheer cliff above the water.
