We awoke at 7.00am to no rain, no thunderstorms and no bears! Only a moose strolling nearby camp. With only toilet facilities here, sadly not even a wash was practical so it was a quick change all round before the breakfast team began setting up. With a long hike ahead of us, porridge was the best start to the day. After breakfast we prepared a picnic lunch before the big clean up! ... bears don't like to be surprised so making noise means they keep away. It was 6 o'clock when we arrived in the middle of Yellowstone and we found the Old Faithful Snow Lodge. It was the only accommodation available in the park and was quite pricey so we were hoping it was nice. It was very nice and quite modern. It was opened in 1998 so has most of the mod cons. Against public opinion and with repeated Congressional efforts to repeal the measures, much of Jackson Hole was set aside for protection as Jackson Hole National Monument in 1943. ...

... completing activities in the book.

As we entered Wyoming, we saw more of the sandstone mountains covered with little brush-like trees. Road signs indicated it was a Free Range, and sure enough, we saw cattle roaming the craggy mountainsides, munching on the brushy little trees. Soon, we were out of the mountains and driving over rolling desert areas with the Rocky Mountains far off in the distance.

This place has a great location and staff but that's all. The place needs a renovation badly. Food pretty good in the restaurant.
