Highest waterfall in Europe

... easy trail. There is a very large line between what Canadians and Austrains think is appropriate for evryone. I walked 4 km up a decent incline and then back down, in sandals. It was fine, I could do it, but I knbow that at home it would be rated a moderate level taril. These guys are just in way better shape than we are.

Anways the falls were impressive, but very similar to those in the Canadian riokies.

Relaxing day in Auronzo and Cortini

... returning to Cortina, Cindy slept off an upset stomach while the kids relaxed and I did a 10-mile run exploring south of Cortina. We all went on a stroll (hike is a bad word now) afterwards to enjoy the first extended period of sunshine since we arrived in Europe a week ago.

Bike Ride to Prato Piazza

Trey and I did a 30+ mile bike ride from Cortina up to Prato Piazza. The length wasn't difficult, but the 900 meter climb was very strenuous. The ride through the forests, along the river, past a lake, and then up to the top were very scenic. We stopped towards the top to rest and eat our sandwiches. Peanut butter sandwiches never tasted so good after the climb to 2200 meters!

Hiking the Dolomites

... nice views off of the trails of Rio de Fanes and we then returnied to Alycia, who happened to be right next to the falls we were looking for. It was a 3 hour hike covering about 7 miles going up to 1500 meters or more.

Trey was feeling better late in the day, so the family walked around town a while tonight before eating dinner and calling it a night. Tomorrow will be much more strenuous as Trey and I are planning an all-day bike ride.

Trekking and Climbing in the Dolomites

... cuddly ca 50 cm long furry ground hog type burrow dwellers, who were equally unphased by our presence.
We saw this as another good omen and happily climbed up our next via ferrata to Averau peak to return to safer ground just before our first torrential rain set in. We took the chairlift down to the valley and then the bus back to civilisation: Cortina d'Ampezzo, the oh so hip regional capital. Here we found a lovely and very affordable central ...

Darn Dangerous Disappearing Dolimites

... here then I mention the names so you will be sure to put them on your list.
What a breathtaking place .... and I'm from Canada! The mountains are rough slices of rock jutting straight up to heaven. In many ways I am reminded of Patagonia. The light plays on the rock as the day gives way to night. From White to gold to red. Beautiful!!
At the end of our three days we had done a few hikes and taken hundreds of pictures ...

Bad Aussee- Zell am See - Dobbiaco

... etc, I got Tom to tell us the exact coordinates of where we were, explained that 112 is the number to call and that there was good phone reception and that we were only 50 metres from a road and 20 K from Dobbiaco, but I think we are relegated to stopping now where there are lots of people!!! I have also made the decision that in Italy if there is an autostrada to use we are going to use it, too much stress on their little roads!!

Deciding about the cities we would like to visit

Here there is a map in Google Maps where you will see the cities that we plan to visit this year. All of them are new for us, although we are old Spain travelers. The planned route is the blue one. The red one is called "Plan B" in case of bad weather or other reasons of changing our plans.

The hills are alive, with the sounds of gasping...

Today we did a walk up one of the nearby "hills", walking about 15 km (horizontal) and about 1057m (vertical). We walked to the top of Lutterkopf - Monte Luta, which at a height of 2145m is only slightly lower than our Mt Kozy! This one is the baby in terms of height around here, but seeing as neither of us have been ...
