After an early morning swim in the pool and breakfast on the terrace, we said our farewells to Mark and Debs and hit the road. Chris took us part way up yesterday's cycle route to a fabulous viewpoint of lake Como and then onto the Ghisallo Di Madonna. The church a shrine to cyclists was great to see and a whole lot easier to get to in a car, but it somehow felt like I'd cheated ...

... a number of ski lifts. After seeing nobody walking up the mountain, I was surprised to see lots of people at the top. Then I spotted parked cars. I had a bit of a rant about the people we passed along the lines of "I bet they haven’t just climbed up 1200 metres to get to the top!" I felt very aggrieved. Saturday 13th June

We drove towards la Pietra di Bismantova past the foundry, Fonderia Capanni that still makes bronze bells and they have a selection of all sizes on display in their yard. At the car park

John was keen to check out the EE route. (EE means for expert hikers). It was a
via ferrata which uses steel cables to allow non expert climbers ...

Our last night in Italy (for now) we came down from the mountain ( not in his triumph) (or similar) and have spent our last 2 days on the shores of lake Garda at the beautiful hotel Gardenia Al Lago in the small town of Gargnano. Taking it relatively easy, relaxing in the peaceful garden beside the lake or on one of our 2 count then 2, balconies overlooking the lake! Took a short trip out this morning to drive (a challenging road) from lake side up through a fabulous gorge to the hill ...

Modena - my day to remember!

Set off for Modena this morning - Ferrari country!!!! Actually, the region is home to Lamborghini, Maserati, Bugatti and Ducatti as well, and so I was hoping that our visit to the Enzo Ferrari Museum would give me enough time for a decent look around! We have spent eons looking at ancient churches, castles and buildings etc. and as lovely as they are, I am totally over them!!!!
So I endured an hour of central Modena with its large Cathedral and cobblestones, before we found ...
