    Spain made our departure easy by putting on a wet grey day. So after a visit to Decathlon & Carrefour we headed for the ferry terminal. The ferry did not sail until 21:15 so we had plenty of time for a late lunch in town. Unfortunately everyone in Santander was doing the same so it took a while to get in somewhere and even then we had to wait for a table.

    After two months in Spain our trip is nearly over. Last stop is the coastal town of Suances just west of Santander.

    With a couple of nice beaches, a picturesque medieval old village, and a prehistoric cave painting site close by we have plenty to keep us busy. But first its the beach.

    With our boat docking in St Marlo at 8am, the alarms were set bright and early so we could have a leisurely breakfast before our long car ride ahead. I woke up with terrible back ache to find out that Imogen had joined me overnight from her seat and had come and slept in my almost one person can fit bed...     ... tourist cable car which you can use to get up to 2000M but that is not for us! We chose a walk which climbs up through a high pass, across a high alpine meadow, and the back round the mountain to the start.

    Walks in the mountains

    ... but we chose the walk through the gorge. Fabulous mountain scenery with Griffon vultures circling overhead. The once remote village is now has bars and restaurants catering for the walkers and the tourists coming up on the train.

    A short walk up from the village is the mirador for Picu Urriellu also known as the Naranjo de Bulnes.
