Family fun!

What a fantastic eleven days we have had with our Australian family. After the three days of gracious hospitality with Julian and Cindy we travelled down to Tracy and Steves' who live in Annangrove, N.W. of Sydney and had another wonderful two days with them and their lovely daughters, Samantha and Zoe,in their home, which is undergoing some massive extension work and is going to be fabulous. They live on a 5 acre block which ...

Only a short first day

Wagga Wagga After delaying our departure 1 day we spent the first night away at the Rossiter family guest house and spend a great quick night over a couple of beers and a home made Rossiter Pizza. Great to catch up with friends and this will be one thing both Rebecca, myself and the kids will find the hardest over the next 10 months To all the people we missed on the way north we will catch up with on the way south next year

Wagga Wagga?

... you wondering--while Lord of the Fries had phenomenal fries, I don't think it would do well in the States. We realized after we ordered our burgers and fries that it is a vegan restaurant, so our burgers weren't actually made out of meat. They pile on the toppings, so I don't know that it tastes all that different from a McDonald's hamburger, but I doubt Americans will ever willingly (and knowingly) buy a ...

The Top of Australia

... bladders hibernate during winter, removing the need for such public conveniences... thank God, yet again, for my 'she-wee'!!!) And then I experienced a rush of deja-vu as we began the descent: looking at my watch and at the sinking sun, knowing that we had plenty of kilometres yet to cover, I realised we would be ending the hike in the dark... yet again... ah well, it was becoming a habit at this stage... It became seriously cold ...

Marathon Drive

After a good night's rest, marred only by the pipping of smoke alarms in the corridor, crying for batteries I haeded for the shower and then the kitchen. The place was still deserted, not a soul around. Maybe, if there were other guests, they were friut pickers who had to be out early to beat the heat of the day. There was some evidence of life - some unfinished washing up and more crucially some milk. I could treat myself to a cuppa. I took this outside in the mainly enclosed ...

Wagga, Twice the surprise

A short drive (short in distance, long in driving time) North East of Melbourne is a town called Wagga Wagga (or simply pronounced Wogga) where we caught-up with some old friends from South Africa -Gavin, Chantell and their beautiful little boy Kyle (aged 4). Gavin and I have been friends for 32 years and he and his wife were gracious enough to put us up for the weekend in 5 ...

Trains again but little ones

This morning we headed off to the Botanical Gardens where there is a miniature railway which runs each 1st and 3rd Sunday of the Month - and guess what - today is the 1st Sunday!! We decided to take a ride to see where best to take photographs. The layout is quite extensive and well thought out - it runs between the Botanical Gardens and the Zoo, to the ...

tyre pressures and the road

Today was a day of work - got up at 7am and was all packed up and ready to go about 8:20am - can't seem to estimate the time it takes us. We were so early, we called into the van park café and had a cappuccino. We first went to a large service station just north of Albury that we had sussed out.- we need a reasonable amount of space when we want to check the tyre pressures. Lots of service stations have their air in such a position that it is not easy to get a ...
