After brekkie it was onto Menton which is a lovely little town just before the Italian border. Menton is a much more down to earth place than its neighbours and more our scene. We found a park right on the beach and went for a wander and took in sum much needed sun. Next stop Italia!!
Menton, Provence, France darrenhough74Up early as it was a spectacular sunrise - full of pinks and organges. We wanted to hit McWifi before we entered Italy but we did not find one until later in the day in Menton. Before that we drove the coast road through Nice and Monte Carlo, both concrete ...
Monte-Carlo, Monaco darrenhough74Gorgeous morning and a stunning place for breakfast awaited us just outside Scooby overlooking the lake. I went for a run but Kim was feeling a little under the weather so she stayed and made me breakfast - yay! We spotted two girls about our age and attempted to engage in some conversation but their English was limited and French is rubbish. Shame as its manily been the grey hair brigade we ...
Grasse, Provence, France darrenhough74... Sailboats were docked at the marina (knez, it made me think of you). Diane ordered mussles and Jon and I had our first mussels ever. They were delicious. Thank you Diane for helping me discover my love for sea food. St-Tropez was further than we thought, but thank god we ...
Cannes, Provence, France sofenjon... we opted not to return to the Ruby Princess just yet. Instead we chose to visit the casino in Monte-Carlo. Here, we found where the rich and famous come to play! There were BMW's, Mercedes, Audi's, Porsche's, Ferrari's and even a Lamborghini. We even witnessed a Volkswagon wedding car. Hmm! A wedding in Monte-Carlo! Can you say $$$$$$$?

We couldn't make a visit to the casino without making a wager ...
Monte-Carlo, Monaco ricknelsie... so there was a lot of walking up hills. What we didn't know before we got there was that the are apparently having an F1 Gran Prix there in a couple of days. Monte carlo isn't a big city and the roads are really winding and narrow. But the cars actually race through the city streets. There were grandstands set up everywhere and fences and barricades on the sides of all the streets. Monte Carlo also sits on the Mediterranean and ...
Nice, Provence, France chapm024... and then layed out for a bit. The beach is a rocky beach but they had brought in a bit of sand so we layed out there. Brandon loved swimming in the water so he went in a few times while I tanned! Later that day we tried to find this palace that we had seen online. We got confused by the directions and never eneded up finding it but we got to see a lot of the town. We walked through the smaller side streets that are really ...
Nice, Provence, France peter148... which is actually fake, the sand has been shipped in) which was nice but overly expensive in terms of food and souveniers, and then caught a bus back to the port and had dinner in a mexican steakhouse style restaurant next to the water, which was my little splashout for the week as i dont get to eat out much anymore, trying to save money and all. We then saw a little more of the harbour and the boats, and wandered up the hill to the old town, through some more ...
Nice, Provence, France lovin_apples... was incredible, and worth every bit of the sleep deprivation. The next morning we slept in, went to breakfast and then headed back to Monte Carlo Beach for the day. The drive from Nice to Monaco during the day is absolutely breathtaking and so surreal... the views are so amazing that they look like photographs... I remember as we were driving through the windey cliffs, looking out the windows with the warm ocean breeze in our hair... I leaned over to tell ...
Nice, Provence, France tammiandchrissy... Wi-Fi.

Thursday Nice

Finally Ashley got out of bed for breakfast, and we walked down the hill and caught the tram into town where we picked up the car at the station. A little manual Renault. Lovely to drive except the manual gearshift on the right took some time to get used to. Avoided the motorway and took the coast road to Antibes, which was pretty pointless as all we saw were traffic jams. Couldn't ...
