... and movie time - early night to recover from Queenstown antics. The next day we took a drive into the city centre - so many derelict buildings and houses even 3 years after the earthquake and parts of the city centre looked like a ghost town - pretty eery and just shows how much damage it done! We went to the Canterbury museum where we learnt a little about the aftermath of the earthquake and the Maori history of Christchurch. ...

... there used to be, and an influx of construction workers puts extra pressure on those that are left. ... of the effects of the quakes, and to grab an early lunch somewhere. As we head north, straight away we see fenced-off buildings that are still awaiting demolition – even behind our hotel there’s a row of two-story buildings that are very badly damaged, with collapsed walls and roofs. ... to return to New Zealand. For those of you who don't know Christchurch was hit by two earthquakes in 2010 at 7 on the Richter scale causing irreparable damage to the city. Three years later and the city is a very different place, it seems people have deserted their homes and gone elsewhere. It was like a ghost town and I was there on a Saturday..... As soon as I got there I noticed there was an exhibition on at the museum but I had 30 minutes ...
