All these mornings are the same story, wake up, breakfast, and hit the road.
Today our first stop was at this little diner called Mayse's in Pine Creek. Pine Creek is famous for gold mining, and Mayse's is known for its mango smoothies. I had to try one of those, definitly delicious, although not sure if it is the best smoothy i've ever had. We continued on to Edith Falls, which was more of a watering hole and the falls were 100m of a swim. I didn't really feel like swimming and since...

We stayed around 4 days in Katherine. While we were there we spent a lot of the time in the pool. We visited Katherine Hot Springs, which we loved, and also visited Katherine Gorge(Nitmuluk N.P.). Katherine Gorge was very beautiful. We explored Katherine ...

Alec is a master of understatement; he jumped in and out like there was no tomorrow. After a couple of idyllic hours we completed the short Barrawei Loop walk, which in the heat felt rather longer than its advertised 3.7km. This lead us to cliff-top lookout with magnificent views over the river and up the first gorge*. Our path back was ...
... we’re fidgeting. Within 6minutes the sighing starts. 7 minutes ...the critisms...... It was awful!! short film after short film of complete showing of personal trauma/mental health insecurities/complete bollocks captured in visual art form. we drink alot. duck as the guy arrives searching out his 'date’for the night. In about 15mins (felt like 15hours) there is an intermission. we get more wine – and ******IT the exhibition is open – so despite good ...
Katherine, Northern Territory, Australia mudler77... better price so begrudgingly we paid the $36. In fairness I will point out that the pool was resort style with beautiful heavy wooden outdoor furniture and lounges.
The first thing we did after setting up was to wander to the river for a swim and to see the famed Gorge. We were not going to shell out any further money and catch a river cruise. We decided to walk 3.6km on “Baruwei” one of the many bushwalks in the park. This ...
... grass'; an inedible, spiky grass which also has an unforgiving seed. The seed is shaped like a spear (hence the name) and as the sheep brushed past the plant, the seed would become embedded in its fur, where it would then start to work its way towards their skin like a corkscrew, where it would then become lodged in the sheep's flesh, causing irritation, disease and finally painful death- nice! Giles once wrote ...
Katherine, Northern Territory, Australia steph_nico... swimming hole off of the river...no crocs spied, but we probably won't do that again...
The day before we had our first dip in Aus at the Thermal Springs in Mataranka...very nice.
Dave is enthralled with sight of a Bower Bird - a bird that makes a little tunnel house and decorates the entrance with flashy found object to attract his mate...and then he does a little dance for the lady bird he is wooing.
... as the train sped past and the animals are thinking "sheesh they have gone OK every one back out".
We then had an announcement that we had to make up our minds as to what we were to do in Katherine when we arrived in 4 hrs time so after some long and often deliberate debate lasting 3 minutes Nancy and I decided we would fly over Katherine gorge in a helicopter, that settled i went and booked the flights and then lunch was served it was a pleasant meal the seating ...
... sitting in the back of the car doing school work with Lucy. The joys of home schooling, fitting it in whenever possible!
We were planning to stay the night at Sullivans Camp - another free camp - but when we arrived there at 1pm it was stinking hot, pretty grotty and with nowhere to swim safely. We all agreed to keep driving and check out the other two free camps this side of Katherine.
We drove back down the road ...
