      Venice to Rome

... nice young man at the hotel desk meant!). The thing that has struck me about Rome that I didn't remember from being here last time is how big everything is - the buildings all seem to be huge and of course there are statutes, fountains and historic monuments all over the place. The area our hotel is in seems to consist of 3 star hotels and embassies - strange combination. Tor and I are lucky enough to have 2 single rooms here because the hotel has a couple of its twin ...

... heart was racing. Becca opened the window to take pictures and a huge cracked lightening lit the sky- even she freaked at this one and closed the window. After the storm we had some pasta nearby, then went to get some wifi at our hotel courtyard. Well like I said on the way here, it's not all sunshine & roses this travel lark. Get off ship at about 9.30am, drag bags a fair way to the people mover, wait 10 minutes €4 to get to bus station. Hop on bus and head to airport, another €24, get to airport can't check in. Paul & I have a little 'set to' (who cares no one knows us), then drag our bags downstairs across the road through another terminal to 'baggage hold', ...

Overnight, we sailed from Dubrovnik to Venice and arrived just after lunch. You haven't lived until you have sailed down the Canale della Giudecca past Venice and the Grand Canal in an 11 storey cruise ship. The views are to die for!!! We glided past San Marco Square and the Doges Palace with gondolas moored in front of the square. We went ashore just after 2 pm and walked through the narrow streets with three other couples. The streets ...
