Phase Three – Setting Sail

Paros

We disembarked the ferry and took in the marvelous sights of the port of Parikia – the windmill, white-washed buildings, clear blue sky. Our meeting point was the Marina Café. We used the tourist map supplied by Blue Star Ferries and info from Exas Yachts to find it. The check-in was located just behind the Marina Café and on the second ...

Mosaics and Lions in Delos

... close to the marina that has music coming from it. I ate a lamb dish for dinner and since the Greeks eat dinner very late in the day and will frequently make an evening of it, it wasn't until close to 11 PM that we left the taverna.

I went back to the yacht to dress in my club clothes and to go to one of the few dance clubs that remained open over the winter. Although it wasn’t packed, the club was still a lot of fun and we had a great time.

A few days in Mykonos

It’s a little cool outside for a party island that is famous for its nude beaches and all-night dance clubs. This is the first time that I wished we were visiting Greece during the tourist season since the town almost feels empty and the beaches deserted.

This is ...

Cruising and coughing

... tomorrow. The awesome thing is that tomorrow is the official torch lighting ceremony in Olympia for the winter games in Canada. I have no idea if I'll be able to get to see it but I'm going to try to at least experience some part of it. You don't often get chances like that in life. For every Olympic games since way back to the original games, the torch is lit in this same stadium. And now, of course, that flame gets passed from torch to torch to torch all around the ...

My Big Fat Greek Visit !

... meter's weren't running by the minute.

As is custom for us, we found a local bottleshop and purchased a local bottle of wine, with grapes grown in Greece.

We returned to the marina area and then made our way to the area of the island called "Little Venice". Here the most western part of the town meets the sea. Buildings are constructed right at the sea's edge with their balconies overhanging the ...

Santorini to Mykonos

... Santorini experience) to our hotel. We looked at our room and then decided to pay a little extra for the sea view (magnificent). After a brief rest and a chat to our American neighbour we headed down to the town. Mykonos Town is a lovely village on a harbour with white rendered buildings built along a network of tiny lanes (with no ...

Day 35 - Contiki. Day 2 - Athens to Mykonos

... around town. This town is absolutely gorgeous, although it is very dry. Apparently they have about 36 days of rain every year... While we were walking Ryan told us what was good to see and explained some of the sights and buildings for us. He is good but not Gerry that is for sure. Afterwards we looking in the shops and then made our way back to a bar where we sat with Anke and Alέta having a glass of white wine ...

Gay old Mykanos

... hangover, I needed to eat grease! I started the day off with a gyros (but not from Jimmy's) and continued the day, munching. We had an early night, but at 11pm my eyes flew open and I ran to the bathroom, with a very bad case of food poisoning. Could this trip get any worse? I spent the next hour sitting on the loo or throwing up. I think it was the gyros! The following day, we were not able to get off the island. Gale force winds, and bad weather. We, again spent most of the ...

Cruising the Greek Islands

How on Earth did I get to be so lucky?

My family and I went on a cruise of the Greek Islands. We ate a lot, got sea sick once, soaked up the sun, and absorbed the classically beautiful white and blue colours on the islands. There weren't very much ship activities that my sister and I were interested in but Allyson and I did win a bingo game! Mykonos was by far our favorite island because of its beauty.
