Today we arrived at Rhodes, The Island of the Sun and 4th largest island in Greece, where the sun shines more than 300 days per year. We were fortunate to be greeted by Nikos, a taxi driver who offered to show us around on a private tour of the highlights of the island for 130 Euro. Arrived in Rhodes where the people appropriately chose Helios, the ancient God of the sun with 300+days as their divine patron & 4th largest island in Greece, also known as the Island of the Knights. An adjoining museum depicted Jewish life in Rhodes throughout the centuries, culminating with the Nazi deportation and murder of most of the 1,700 Jewish residents of the city.

... view of the other side of the island. Gaily walking around were a lot of peacocks which we were told are native to Rhodes.

We then headed off past the Acropolis. of Lindos to the Palace of the Grand Masters which was built in the 14th Century by the Knights of St John as a fortress to defend the town. It was certainly a fortress complete with moats and a series of battlements with cannons still visible in the ramparts.

The Fortress was destroyed in 1858 ...

... Muslims, the government has not permitted even one mosque to be built. So no call to prayers before dawn every day, and no covered ladies.
We've visited Lindos too, midway along Rhodes coast, involving a long bus trip, then a longer walk to the top of a large stony mountain, only to find the Acropolis closed for May Day. That's Greece for you!
Next stop, after a forty minute flight with Aegean Airlines, it's the biggest Greek island, ...
