Flying to Jakarta with Malaysian Airlines

A travel blog entry by annisa_hasan on Jun 22, 2014

Here I am at Heathrow Airport, checking in our bags, my dad escorting us. As I sip my coffee with my sister and my dad, I felt nervous going back to my homeland, only because I've not been back for 7 years since my third cousin got married. The people smile and nod in greeting, and then zoom about on these motorbikes ...

... complete with a tower of brownies and ice cream.

Perhaps we kept finding ourselves in the undertouristed areas of the city, but it seemed like Jakarta doesn’t rank very high on the backpacker destination trail. If truth be told it was hard to not feel sad walking through certain neighbourhoods past makeshift corrugated iron shacks along the railroad tracks and under bridges where children and physically disabled ...

... door. The following morning, his wife was outside sharpening a Samurai sword shouting “hati hati” (be careful) at us as we went to school and when Jane went to try to pacify him he told her that if he shot somebody, it wouldn’t be his fault. Of course, our delightful boss hasn’t supported us or fought our corner at all, so now nobody can go round there for drinks anymore.

    Apparently this delightful man ...
