We figured we only needed to spend 1 night in Verona as there wasn't a lot to do, plus the lack of any hostels meant we had to stay in a hotel (La Magnolia). We were right.
Got to Verona from Venice early afternoon and wandered around town. The Arena was awesome. So huge and overwhelming inside ...
......... So apparently the title is a quote from Romeo and Juliet...... You learn something new every day!
So we only stopped here for a couple of hours as a rest stop but it was pretty cool.
Verona is a very pretty town that is famous for Juliet Capulet's balcony and the entrance to the balcony is where all the lovey dovey couples write ...
... of them. For such an important architect, I have to admit the buildings are rather boring. I took a bus up to Villa Rotonda and walked around there, taking pictures until my camera died. Then I walked back down to town and read a book in a little pizzaria. I was exhausted and started to get a really bad headache, so I went back to my hostel and got ready for bed. It was about 6pm. But I had seen the entire town, I was there by myself, and my head was ...
Vicenza, Veneto, Italy alliemarie... own special charm, and lured me in!! Now of course, nothing that had to do with my love for this town...we did of course visit the famous balcony of Juliet, and Romeo's house, and Juliet's tomb. (Even though there is no physical evidence of people by those names ever existing...)
So we left the place of love behind and drove on up into Germany...

Just try to look sophisticated and competent wearing a blanket and trying to navigate two suitcases. I have moved into my home of the next two months and it DOES have a kitchenette and bidet. It had a washing machine that disappeared between the time I met with ...
Vicenza, Italy kitchenshrink... Once we left the shelter of the small canals and went out onto the Grand Canal, the wind began whipping the rain at us. It was ridiculous to have rain pelting the three of us as we were paddled by a very determined gondola driver. And to complete the scene, it was right then that my mother decided to call me! I felt ridiculous answering the phone saying: "Hi mom, sorry I can't talk that much because I'm on a gondola ride in the rain right now ...
Venice, Italy joshing16I think in our last entry we told you we were going to the islands off of Spain. Well after making an awful trip to the port and talking to a man that spoke very little English we decided that it was going to cost way too much in ferries to see the islands because our Eurail passes didn't cover enough of the cost. So we stayed a few more nights in Valencia until we could catch a night train to Milan, Italy. So we took a train to Barcelona and from there hopped on a night ...
Venice, Italy leithoff... bus to our hotel. A big boat (Think a small version of the staten Island Ferry) that just goes from stop to stop... We found the hotel without much trouble, and it was a stunning room!!! With a 4-poster bed, and fancy drapes, and a view of a little square below. Truly delightful! We then just started to get lost (on purpose). Strolling along the small passageways, beside small canals, and browsing shops and such. Venice is a ...
