A cute stopover

I had an extra long surf first thing in the morning before we headed off. Although it was small in I really enjoyed it. I had tried to convince Kim to stay for the forcasted HUGE swell in 2 days time but I knew that we had places to go and things to see and that it really was not on the cards. So it was time to head back east.
<br ...

FIRST MAJOR CAMP AFTER NO FIXED ABODE

... erectors Karen & Eric who we had meet through Karen's support website Behind the Gray not even a year ago and oh how glad we were to know them and have them come visit, we would never have managed to get it up on our own, it would probably be at some refuse tip now!! So a huge "BIG THANK YOU" to Karen & Eric. To say the weather was bad would be a bit of an understatement but it was typical bank holiday weather rain rain and wind and yet ...

Overheating

... flight out to Egypt to link up with us might be enough to swing it. I threw a bit of an internet wobbly on Sunday as I saw how much work was still needed and mobile phones from other team members went unanswered all day. The pressure got to me and I sent a group snot-o-gram, but the results were good, I had offers of help from just about the whole team ! Soon we were knocking off those 50 points and I could see some real progress. Finally, after what ...

Turning the Screw

... for showers out in the desert. I charged the batteries over night and put them back in this morning. The bus now has a working bell once more, however the damn bus wouldn't start. I'm wondering if there is a blown fuse somewhere. Well, actually the mechanic who came over from the workshops thought it may be a blown fuse . I didn't have a clue. I guess the lesson is that we really need some sort of bus ...

... blocked by snow and we had to detour to Montigny and thence over the St Bernard Pass and down to Aolta.
Of that whole journey, which I will one day, if time permits relate to you, we were most impressed by Switzerland. At the time it was the most expensive place in Europe. A grapefruit priced at a Co-op shop in Basel, en route, scared us into living very frugally whilst in that country! So we missed out on the wonderful transport opportunities of rail, cablecars and lake ...

Off to Switzerland

Way back in 1973 my wife and I were living in Hull, East Yorkshire,
from where we set off in our tiny Datsun Cherry loaded with camping
gear to look at 'The Continent'. We went via Dover ferry to Belgium,
Luxembourg, France & Germany to Switzerland. We camped beside Lake
Thun, at Gwatt and after a few days respite decided to go over the
Grimsel and Furka passes into Italy, then ...
