Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

Hard work over generations – no wonder the Italian wines are good. It also raised the idea that people wanting to leave their rural roots would be well trained for the ...

On the bus to Lagura Switzerland, free time for coffee and shopping in the markets. Weather is very cold here. We took the bus to the cable car up the mountain called Monte Tamaro. Beautiful views on the way up of the valley below, snow on the alps here. We had a set lunch menu and a walk around at the top, threw ...

... with the next family members. When we got to Tirano we were picked up by Arianna, the daughter of the couple we are staying with who lives in the same building as her. For dinner we had amazing aubergine parmigiano! For dessert we had 15 year old local cheese pared with local wine and dates. I also tried persimmon for the first time. Looking forward to experiencing Poschiavo tomorrow - the town where Char's family is ...
