Heartbeat country part 2

... out the Skripps garage we headed for a town called Whitby where they filmed some of the programs this was a perfect place for lunch and we had Haddock and chips by the sea side.

After lunch we headed up the 200 steps to the Abbey on top of the hill , you may ask how did we know it was 200 steps but knowing Tilly she just had to know and counted every one with me talking to her all the way up getting told to shut up I'm counting ...

Getting ready to leave

... that I wanted to trek to the base camp of Mount Annapurna, deep in the Himalayan range. The problem was, the flights would have cost almost as much as the hotel, living expenses and the trek put together. Which I think would have been the point where most people would have given up and booked a £10 flight to Costa del Sol. Not me.
I decided that if I was going to spend all that money, I might as well visit a few other countries at the same time. And from there, the ...

Whitby: Fishing Village with an Intriguing History

... s Wall, so I didn’t stay out late, but returned to the yacht for a quiet evening of Xbox and a movie in the Upper Salon.

The next morning we visited the Capt. James Cook museum and walking tour. I liked this little village and I could completely understand why so many Brits took their holiday here. We flew out around 4:30 PM to visit the Warwick Castle Dungeon Dinner at Tour at night.

Walking from Fryup

Yes, this place really is called Fryup! We, quite by chance, stumbled upon this fine barn conversion in an isolated spot in the North Yorkshire Moors. It was a 15 minute drive to the nearest shop - perfect. The moors are dotted with public footpaths and bridleways and there were a variety of walks from the front door. It was great in April but I wouldn't have liked to contend with the narrow, steep and winding roads in frosty conditions.

Whitby

Whitby was extremely busy on a Bank Holiday. The weather, however, was perfect. There was mist over the moors as we approached the coast. We climbed the 199 steps to the abbey and St Mary's Church. It was so misty I could not see the harbour below. It was easy to see why Bram Stoker was inspired by St Mary's ...

Staithes

Staithes was a little disappointing. The guide books sold it well but on arrival it seemed a little run down. There were several empty and run-down properties on the pretty main street leading down to the harbour. We took a walk from Staithes to the next bay and then in land and back to Staithes. It was both coastal and country and would have been lovely had it not been for a mass dog dirt covering the paths.

Resolution, Endevour, Adventure and Discovery.

... rising from apprentice to mate and learning skills which later enabled him to lead the epic voyages of discovery. All four ships used by Cook for his three voyages of discovery, including the famous Endevour, were Whitby- built colliers. They were built at Fishburns Shipyard on the west bank of the Esk by the marina.

Road Trip with Alex's Family to Whitby

Got invited on a random roadtrip up north with my lifelong best mate and her family. Aside from having to deal with her annoying grandmother, it was absolutely gorgeous. Didnt have a camera at the time but wish I did, there were hills and picturesque houses everywhere!
