today everyone else has gone for what will doubtless be a very soggy hike up Kinder Scout. Having no raincoat and only one pair of usefull shoes, I opted to stay and mind the boat.
Between showers (and under some) I took a stroll to the nearest town, New Mills.
It has more arches than anywhere I've seen. It is built on the side of a very steep hill. The rivers Goyt and Sett meet in the bottom of the valley and the water supply ...

... many boats were piling up there, unable to get back to where they were hired from, leaving the hire companies with quite a headache.

Today we have motored on lazily. No locks today. A slightly ammended plan means we head up the Peak Forest canal in a few miinutes (when we've done getting water). There are no locks there either and it's supposed to be a very nice quiet stretch.Tomorrow we plan to walk up Kinder Scout, one ...

Set off from home just before 2.30pm. Had a good ride over on the motorway as you do. Got within 48miles of Manchester City and we had to drop down to 50mph then 40mph because of queueing. So had a steady run then it picked up again, then we came upon more queues. Then incident ahead which appeared to be roadworks. We were pleasEd to get off the M62 onto the M60. Geoff had already checked where we needed to be on Google ...

We drove along small roads looking at fields of sheep. Dad pointed out the highest pub in England ( cat and fiddle). Sam and Jacks house was big, Jacob and I had to share a room with bunk beds. We played hide and seek, went for a walk at Carsington Water and lit an enormous fire in the barbecue using Flint and steel. I had to collect lots of leaves and dry sticks to keep the fire ...

Today we manage to pull ourselves out of bed and to get down to the field to help set up the reception. When we arrived we will put straight to work. Some of the jobs were

    Putting out wineglasses
Laying metal sheets to act as a car park
Probably the most fun of all was laying out the soft drinks because I did it in such an OCD way all the drinks were lined up, so Coca-Cola in line and sprite in the ...
