Not much to write about...
My only reason to come to Houston was to visit the NASA space center. Frankly, it was unimpressive at best.
Houston downtown looked very busy, huge and un-inviting and I felt very tired at the same time. So I decided not to do anything else in Houston. I checked into a motel close to NASA and crashed.
Tomorrow morning, I leave for the Bayou country in Louisiana. My destinations are going to be Lafayette, Avery Island, New Orleans and anywhere else that looks ...
Vom „Old Europe“ in die Neue Welt
Cancelled flight and problem solving
... another call: the flight was cancelled. Not only that, but Paul and I, checking our email, realized that we had been booked on different flights. I was scheduled to leave around 11pm, go through Houston, and arrive at 6am. Paul was schedule to leave around midnight, go through Chicago, and arrive around noon.
When we reached the airport, we went to the check-in desk to see if we could get on different flights. We were told no, and that we should call the ...
Day 30: Airport
Today I took my friend and his family back to the airport. They were going to France. I had a lot of fun with them. I am very thankful because they let me into their house and took me to a lot of fun places while I was in France with them. They are great people. My vacations were ...
The big bird in the sky!!
Well flying has been officially ruined for me...business class was amazing!! I had a big pod to myself which reclined all the way so i could lay totally flat on my tummy!! They gave you pajamas to wear on the flight so i changed into them and was nice and comfy.
Dinner was served on a white tablecloth with proper cutlery and it actually tasted pretty good!!

Historical Traveler Reviews Alden-Houston
Wow
WOW what a hotel!! Stayed at the Sam houston for four nights. What a staff of people working there. I am a CFO of a fortune 500 company. Because of an overbooking problem at a "sheik" boutique hotel in Houston. My reservation was re-booked at this hotel. I will never stay anywhere else and I have instructed my companies' travel agents to always book this hotel when our sales people stay in Houston
Sleeping in the beds are like sleeping on clouds
The atmosphere is great, but the beds are greater. You feel like you are floating on a cloud once you've climbed into the bed. Down comforters, down pillows, elegant bathroom, warm bathrobes. You couldn't ask for anything more.
Exceptional Hotel And Staff, A Must Stay!!!
We spent a romantic evening in one of the suites and were spoiled. Room service, valet, food, and over all quality are hard to surpass. We frequent the downtown clubs and theater disctrict and will definately stay there again. Quick hint: The hotel rooms are cheaper on Friday and Saturday, just the opposite of most hotels. This is due to the hotel being usually booked during the week with business men/women and CEOS. So take advantage of the cheaper weekend rates and you won't be dissappointed. Highly recommended from a couple who travels frequently.
Fabulous hotel
I agree whole-heartedly with all the other posts! We live in the Houston metro area and spent last Saturday night at "the Sam" as a birthday getaway. The the hotel is sleek and beautiful, the room/beds are divine, and the service is phenomenal. For example, the person delivering our room service noticed that we were having difficulty with the TV remote - she replaced ours literally within minutes. The Riviera Grill food is delicious and innovative. Although not inexpensive, the hotel is very reasonably priced considering what you get. A king-bedded room with wonderful features, several cocktails and snacks at the bar, room service (first courses), full breakfast, valet parking, tax, and gratuities came to just under $300. There is a comlimentary town car for transportation within the downtown area, but we were too pleased with where we were to leave!
Just about perfect!
Things got off to a great start when I was upgraded to a suite without even having to ask! The Sam is ultra sleek and luxurious. You never feel uncomfortable though becuase the staff is so friendly and helpful.
My suite was v. nice although the "color scheme" was a bit too monochromatic for my taste. I think the bed must have been the most comfortable thing on this earth! I also loved the flat screen TV's and the gorgeous glass and granite bathrooms. Complimentary Town Car service within the downtown area was greatly appreciated. The Rivera Grill was a good spot for dinner too! Just an all-around fantastic boutique property. You must stay here if you're coming to Houston!
Excellence at the Sam Houson
The revered Sam Houston would be proud to have his name associated with this excellent establishment. The Sam Houston Hotel lives up to its advertising in all respects. My husband and I just spent the Labor Day weekend at the Sam Houston and cannot find anything to complain about. The hotel is sleek and modern, yet the staff is warm and friendly. They have a sit-down check-in desk which was very comfortable, if unexpected. The valet parking was quick and efficient. We were in our room within 10 minutes of arriving. The rooms are beautifully furnished and most importantly, they are CLEAN. A hotel's reputation is always at the mercy of its housekeeping, and the Sam Houston has twice daily maid service. We had a room on the top floor with a nice view of the downtown area. Our room rate was $139 which included an excellent cooked to order breakfast and valet parking. Hard to beat, folks. We also took advantage of the complimentary transportation within the downtown area. All provided by smiling and friendly staff. Additionally, the hotel is a breeze to get to off of I-10. This probably sounds like a commercial for the Hotel, but I really must rave. It was excellent. We will definitely be back.
Wow - Great rooms!
Beautiful rooms with great service! I loved the granite bathroom and products provided. This is a great change from the corporate environment of the large hotel chains I normally stay in. Try this hotel and you won't be disappointed.
Great Service
This is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. Rooms are great, a little small though. Beautiful bathrooms!! Top notch staff, very helpful. I would stay there again in a second.
Great Astros package
This newly renovated hotel had an attractive Astros package: room, Astros tickets, full breakfast, parking, and Astros goody bag (with a baseball and big foam finger) all for $190 for two. That sounds pretty good, but what made this truly exceptional was the superb quality of this hotel and its services. The concierge arranged an upgrade in our Astros tickets to the sixth row just in front of third base; such good seats were unavailable through the internet or Ticketmaster. From the warm and inviting sit-down registration to the luxurious rooms (in a sort of unusual '50s style with large flat screen TV with DVD-free movies included, free very high speed internet hook-up for your laptop, and a flashy granite and glass bathroom) to the large and delicious breakfast choices, our stay at the Sam Houston hotel was terrific. The hotel is about a three block walk to the ballpark. The only warning I would give is that this is an area of urban Houston that is in the process of renewal and there is a fleabag hotel across the street that had some unsavory types loitering outside when we walked back to the hotel at about 10 PM. The Sam Houston Hotel does offer complementary limo service around downtown and you might think about using that amenity.
Excellent Experience in a luxurious, yet historical environment
Very professional, personable service, excellent Downtown Houston location, beautifully appointed rooms and a very trendy bar (The Sam)--what is there not to like?
