We left Itaunas and, after a 7 hour journey, reached Arraial d'Ajuda. A quaint little town and perhaps my favourite so far. We had plenty of Brazilian street food, cocktails and also visited Trancoso - a stunning viewpoint and beach where the Portuguese were said to have first docked on these shores.

An Australian girl on our tour, Sarah Wilson, also provided us with a great quote that made me justify this ...

Arnold and me gave up our air conditioned room to Mel and Franco. Mel had been badly bitten at the last place. In addition to a lot of little bites (looks like a rash she had so many), she also had a blister the size of a 5p. She was a bit down and needed a bit of TLC.

I did an excursion to the beach of Prahina, about an hour walking through the jungle. We were told not to go alone as there are usually assaults to tourists on the way, and also because if you don't know the way you will definitively get lost! ... It meant waiting until 4pm for lunch, but it was well worth it. Nice one.

The most amazing thing though about our pousada was the breakfasts. Brazilians do amazing breakfasts, but this one was well and truly beyond the call of duty. There were only a couple of guests staying in the entire complex, but the cooks didn’t seem to go to any less trouble.
